WORKING HOURS: Monday - Friday 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
HOURS PER WEEK: 20-25 hrs per week
HOURLY RATE: $18.00 - $20.00
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a Medical Assistant in the State of North Carolina.
Description of Duties:
This position reports to the Director of Campus Health and Safety or designee. The North Carolina School of Science and Math medical clinic serves 700 students in a variety of acute and chronic illnesses. The Medical Assistant would be an integral part of the clinic staff team. The Medical Assistant should be able to use their technical skills to take patient vital signs and assess the initial need of the student. They should be able to perform clinic tests as directed. They should be detail-oriented, as they must enter all patient data accurately in the medical records. Medical Assistants should also have very good interpersonal skills so they can work with students who need support.
Medical Assistants may perform the following duties:
Schedule new appointments and/or follow up appointments
Email students with information as directed by the medical staff
Initial assessment of the student’s need
Measure and record vital signs
Perform in-office testing as requested by the medical staff
Perform data entry
Clean exam rooms
Answer phone calls
Facilitate medication distribution according to policy and procedures
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge: The position requires knowledge of basic medical principles and techniques, medication administration and, knowledge to assess and monitor student’s health.
Consulting: The position requires the ability to communicate information to students and parents. Ability to collaborate with clinic medical staff and NCSSM’s administration is required.
Critical Thinking: The position requires the basic ability to implement the nursing process of assess, plan, implement, and evaluate.
