About us

Starcross Monastic Community is a non-profit service organization and organic farm located in northwestern Sonoma County, CA founded in 1967. We are looking to hire someone to assist with elder caregiving and light housekeeping. We would prefer to hire on a full-time basis but are willing to consider part-time for the right candidate. Starcross offers housing on our beautiful 100 acre property which includes numerous residences and a large redwood forest under a conservation easement. We are located 7 miles from the ocean and 15 miles from Gualala (the nearest grocery store and medical facilities).

Duties:

• Assist an elder with limited mobility with getting in and out of chairs, bed, putting on socks, etc. and retrieving items.
• Prepare simple vegetarian meals 2-3 times a day.
• Occasionally shop for groceries, household supplies, and maintain a shopping list.
• Light housekeeping including: dishwashing, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning kitchen and bathrooms.
• Rarely drive to appointments in Starcross vehicle.
• Provide companionship and be responsive to needs as they evolve.

Requirements:

• Must be vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19 and receive future medically recommended vaccinations.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Be cat friendly.

Desired Qualities:

• Familiar with Starcross or have an interest in spiritual paths.
• Have an interest in elders and/or experience assisting them.
• Appreciate quiet, rural life.

Pay and Benefits:

• $20-25/hr depending on qualifications.
• Housing available on site.
• Health insurance for full-time employees, if needed.

Schedule:

• Monday through Friday, 8am - 3pm with 30 minute lunch break (hours can be somewhat flexible)
