SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform product design verification and validation tests to reduce design related field product failures and issues. To provide vital reliability/durability feedback/guidance as part of a multidiscipline team in the product change/design process. Verify that electrical/electronic/software requirements are properly met against the product specification and results are documented to ensure that reliability, and cost requirements are achieved.
REPORTS TO (Title): Sr. Manager, Electronics Reliability and Validation
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Product design validation and reliability testing.
  • Test method development/improvement.
  • Functional test plan creation.
  • Generate detailed reports of testing activity.
  • Work with cross functional disciplines to identify failure modes and countermeasures.
  • Test fixture design, fabrication, maintenance, and repair.
  • Provide support to other business functions (production, customer tech support).
  • Software testing.
  • Evaluation of market returns for root cause failure analysis.
  • Selection of alternate electronic components to support manufacturing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND REQUIRED ABILITIES:
  • Experience with Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) development steps including Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA), design reviews, and design validation.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and ISO standards is preferred.
  • Excellent problem solving, documentation, and record keeping skills.
  • Familiarity with automotive EMC testing requirements (SAE, CE, FCC Part 15)
  • Experience with vehicle communication networks (CAN, J1939, J1708) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory test equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, ESD simulator, vehicle transient generator)
  • Experience with Thermal Chamber operation a plus.
  • Experience with Electrical Transient testing a plus.
  • Experience with Salt Chamber operation a plus.
  • Soldering skills a plus.
  • Experience with system level testing of software based products is a plus.
  • Knowledge of test tracking tools (Dev Ops, Jira, etc.) a plus.
  • Experience with Source Control tools such as Subversion a plus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BSEE, BSET or significant technical background combined with work experience.
  • Engineering degree strongly preferred.
  • Certified Software Tester certification is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The employee is frequently required to walk and use hands to handle or feel. The employee is regularly required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate typical of an office with occasional work requiring hearing and eye protection.
