Electronics Technician I

Job Summary:

Preparation and release of atmospheric measurement soundings via balloons filled with helium or hydrogen, standard operating procedures will be provided. Operation of computer software relating to atmospheric soundings. Occasional troubleshooting of equipment related to atmospheric soundings and communications via Sea Range data lines. Relocation of various weather sensors normally installed via mounting to tripods or structures. Occasional assembly, configuration and maintenance of weather stations under supervision or independently.

Applicant must have a valid CA driver’s license and acknowledge that traffic regulations on military institutions must be strictly adhered to.

Ability to follow very strict procedures from Launch Control Officers to gain access to restricted areas while tests are on-going. Applicant will be working alone often in a remote location and should possess the ability to make responsible and safe decisions without constant supervision. Good communication skills are a must in order to communicate with fellow operations personnel on San Nicolas Island to stay abreast of test status and shuttle flight information.

Willingness to participate in deployment and retrieval of oceanographic buoys on utility boats. Trips are commonly 12 hours and occasionally overnight, some strenuous manual labor is required on deck and crane safety procedures must be strictly adhered to. Willingness to participate on the Meteorological Helicopter Atmospheric Measurement program which requires extensive certification including some physical testing. An aptitude for trouble shooting and repair of meteorological weather sensors and communications. Eventual certification to operate a small forklift.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance is required.

Primary job location:

San Nicolas Island with opportunity to expand to Point Mugu once abilities related to Electronic Technician, logistics, participation in Meteorological Helicopter Atmospheric Measurement and oceanographic buoy preparation and deployment skills are obtained.
