ConMet is looking for an Embedded Systems Software Engineer to join the Digital Connected Products Unit to support design, prototype build, testing, and troubleshooting to deliver an integrated product within the Digital/SmartHub business.
Position Details
The Embedded Systems Software Engineer at ConMet is responsible for working with electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to develop new and innovative wireless devices for commercial vehicles from concept to validated prototype in a fast-paced startup environment. Responsible for embedded software, control logic, and simple GUI programming for integrated sensors, controllers, IoT devices, and electro-mechanical systems. Supports design, prototype build, testing, and troubleshooting to deliver an integrated product. Researches and advises on new remote sensing technology and wireless communication developments applicable to the transportation industry.

This position will be based at our global headquarters in Vancouver, Washington.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops software for embedded systems and microcontrollers for use in remote commercial vehicle applications.
- Applies state of the art techniques to develop embedded firmware for battery powered devices consisting of a mixture of digital, analog, and RF circuitry in highly integrated, very low-power sensor designs
- Plans and executes software verification activities including specification reviews, design reviews, code reviews, unit tests, function tests, integration tests, ad hoc debugging, and HW/SW interface debugging
- Responsible for engaging with other engineering disciplines, technical field service, suppliers, and manufacturing to support product development and customer application
Education & Experience:
Required:
- Three (3) or more years of design/development experience in at least one of the following areas: Embedded firmware, wireless communication protocols, battery operated IoT devices, or vehicle telemetry (‘telematics’)
- Demonstrated proficiency in C/C++ programming for microprocessor control applications (minimum 2yrs required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related technical field is required
Preferred:
- Experience developing applications utilizing BLE wireless protocol is preferred
- Working knowledge of automotive or commercial vehicle applications is desirable
- Prior use of rapid prototyping, development boards, and GUI’s to implement a concept for testing is desirable
