The Organization
North Los Angeles County Regional Center “NLACRC” is a private, non-profit agency that is contracted with the State of California, Department of Developmental Services, to provide services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. NLACRC is one of the largest regional centers in California and has proudly served the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Antelope Valley since 1974. We serve individuals across the lifespan from infants and toddlers, school age children, transition-age youth, to adults and aging adults.
Supervision
Receives supervision from the Chief Information Technology Officer.
The Position and Job Summary
- Serve as the point person for NLACRC’s response to various forms of disasters and other emergencies, including but not limited to, floods, fires, earthquakes, power outages, chemical spills, or events for which a disaster has been declared by local, state, federal, or tribal government.
- Agency’s lead for the Emergency Management System; gather and triage critical information and updates across multiple departments and stakeholders.
- Responsible for planning, preparedness, response, and recovery; initiating crisis management activities.
- Provide technical assistance to the organization and with the public.
- Keep informed of activities and updates both locally and statewide that could affect response efforts or emergency response plan.
- Communicate emergency/disaster information to regional center consumers, their families and caregivers, service providers, regional center staff, and other local partners.
- Develop and maintain relationships, educate, prepare plans, and collaborate with County Emergency Management Office tribal entities, neighboring regional centers, and the community.
- Serve as the liaison with DDS Emergency Preparedness & Response, county departments, hospitals, schools, and local utility companies, shelters, and evacuation sites.
- Participate in related committees, workgroups, task force, and state-funded training opportunities and exercises, including statewide meetings.
- Prepare and submit action and summary reports that outlines the response efforts during and after emergency situations.
- Identify and develop resources, training procedures, policies, materials
- Develop and performs tests and evaluations of emergency management plans.
- Other duties related to public information, communications, proactive planning, and emergency response as applicable.
Employment Standards
Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, social work, education, public administration or in a related social services field. Direct experience in emergency planning and/or disaster preparedness or first response is required. Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.
Skills and Abilities
Prior experience with emergency management or related experience. Knowledge of federal, state, local laws, and regulations governing safety procedures. Prior experience with emergency services and recovery plans as it relates to health and human services. Good organizational skills, demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively as a part of an interdisciplinary team, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency with MS Word and MS Outlook.
Essential Requirements
This position is both office-based and community-based that will involve some travel for emergency situations and for outreach/community meetings. This position will serve all three valleys. Able to work some alternative hours, such as evening or weekends, based on the emergency response needs of our community. This position may also meet with families or stakeholders in their homes, in the community, or in our office location. Must be comfortable working with a high degree of independence. Frequent telephone, virtual, and out-of-office meetings required. Valid California Driver’s License and reliable and transportation, or acceptable substitute, required.

This position is exempt. Regular salary $64,480 - $93,368.
