Job description
The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The EMT is a link into the health care system and resource for routine and interfacility transports.
Schedule: EMTc base schedule is three 12-hour shifts per week and includes holiday and weekend requirements. Overtime is often available but not guaranteed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- National Registry of EMTs Emergency Medical Technician certification
- Ability to obtain Vermont Department of Health Office of EMS EMT licensure
- Valid Driver’s License
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Course within six (6) months of hire (we provide)
- AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers
- Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to utilize electronic patient care reporting, word processing and spreadsheet software
- Ability to identify and operate within the incident management system.
- Possession of ICS 100 & 200; IS-700 & IS-800; IS-5 or equivalent EMS HazMat Awareness or higher
Full time schedule is three 12 hour shifts per week which may be days or nights and includes weekend and holiday requirements.
The base schedule of a full-time EMT is 36-40 hours per week. Per diem EMTs must work 48 or more hours a month and during orientation/field training 24-40 hours a week.
