The role at a glance:
**
**Test Engineer II supports the engine calibration and test engineering teams to develop and execute tests, install and operate test articles and equipment, and collect data associated with engine calibration development, engine validation testing, and component testing. This would include instrumenting, installing, operating and testing engines and vehicles in-laboratory and in-vehicle or equipment, and preparing data for engineering teams. The individual will provide input into development of test plans. In addition, the individual will perform first level data quality review and reduce the data using established tools into charts and graphs to effectively communicate results to internal customers.
The Test Engineer II will standardize testing methods and establish best practices. This will include developing guidelines to document department test procedures. The Test Engineer II will look to streamline the test set up and overall workflow through the lab by standardizing test fixturing. The individual in this position will maintain the testing equipment and perform schedule maintenance. The Test Engineer II will mentor test technicians on established departmental test and calibration practices.

What you'll be doing:

  • Setup and instrumentation of the test article.
  • Installation of test articles (engines and components) onto test stands.
  • Installation, maintenance, and calibration of testing equipment.
  • Installation and maintenance of facility equipment.
  • Interface with PCs and data acquisition to tailor data acquisition system to specific test.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot engine, electrical, and test cell instrumentation during test programs.
  • Support the PSI-driven endurance run testing and other R&D activities.
  • Provide input to and support internal testing group with development of equipment and test systems to improve and enhance organization capabilities.
  • Submit timely and concise test reports including test set up, testing methods and data summary.
  • Support efforts to expand facility test infrastructure, instrumentation, data collection, etc. by developing schematics, BOMs, cost estimates, etc.
  • Receive formal training and certifications on arc flash and high-voltage safety procedures and continually work with Safety Coordinator to ensure all relevant procedures and training are in place.
  • Develop or make recommendations on test procedures and specifications.
  • Develop and coordinate component or system validation testing as needed
  • Lead small projects to support engineering team on processes and standards to improve and enhance organizational capability.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures including the use of personal protective equipment and navigating the plant with alert behavior.

What we're looking for:
Must haves:

  • Bachelors degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or another applicable engineering field with strong academic performance.
  • Subject matter expertise and/or aptitude of the mechanical and electrical aspects of internal combustion engines including engine components, accessories and electrical
  • Exhibit ownership and initiative in troubleshooting, proactively solving design challenges, and learning new skills

*Nice-to-haves: *

  • Knowledge and/or experience with National Instruments instrumentation and LabView or LabWindows CVI software preferred.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with engine applications for the industrial, power generation, and/or on-highway industries
  • Experience conducting, interpreting, and documenting testing for design and system validation - DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report)
  • Experience with Vibration control, sound attenuation, and NVH
