Engineering/R & D Technician

30 minutes from Penn State University (State College, PA)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position reports to the Director of Purchasing.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fabricate molds, dies and tooling that will be used in the production of products.
- Maintain and repair all tools, molds, and machinery used in the production process.
- Participate in problem solving with other departments to resolve mold & tooling quality issue.
- Establish manufacturing processes and techniques to produce parts to company specifications.
- Actively participate in product development planning from concept to completion.
- Plan setup and operation of all types of machine shop equipment and tools.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
- Requisition parts and materials as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with resin composite and urethane materials.
- Welding (TIG and MIG) & general medal fabrication experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
- General knowledge or experience with CNC machinery.
- Basic woodworking or construction knowledge.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, including thermoforming & foam casting a plus.
- Proficient with precision measuring and gauging tools.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task.
- Ability to follow instructions, good high school math, reading, and communication skills required.
- Basic knowledge of general automotive construction techniques and subassemblies a plus.
- Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and in a positive manner.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to evolving technology.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Engineering/R&D Technician must be able to stand 80% of each workday, and is subject to bending, squatting, pushing, lifting heavy objects, crawling, and working in otherwise awkward positions. Employee must manipulate fingers, hands, wrists, and arms in repetitive motions continuously for extended periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
The Engineering/R&D Technician works in a well-lighted environment but is subject to occasional high decibel sounds associated with production and non-toxic fumes also associated with production. The duties of the position include working with tools, machinery, and other items that have very sharp edges, high levels of pressure, or are extremely hot and are subject to extreme repetitive motion of the fingers, hands, wrists, and arms. Works with chemicals daily, which may be toxic if consumed or irritating if splashed in eyes.
