About This Opportunity
Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding environment where you are responsible for designing an entire structure and evaluating existing structural deficiencies involving buildings, parking structures, plazas, building envelopes and bridges? If so, you have found the perfect firm!

As a Structural Engineer at Walker Consultants, you will design some of the largest structures in the world, including resort, casino and airport parking structures. Parking structures are similar to both bridges and buildings and require skill in both structural design and materials science due to aesthetics, long spans, thermal movements, and durability challenges. These structures endure the elements with every framing member exposed to public view. Not only will you design the structure’s framing system, but you will participate in its layout and aesthetic appearance, interacting directly with clients and other subconsultants.

Along with design, you will research, analyze, and solve structural deficiencies involving high-rises, historical buildings, parking structures, plazas, building envelopes, water-retention structures, tunnels, and bridges. You will also be responsible for providing forensic investigation, behavior evaluation, repair design and budgeting, preparation of repair documents and construction administration. You will evaluate, assess and devise a plan of action.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural modeling, analysis, and design for gravity and lateral design of structures including concrete, masonry, and steel members.
  • Produce construction documents for new design and restoration projects.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, track construction progress, and verify contractor compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Conduct field investigations, collect material samples, and prepare condition assessment reports.
  • Perform structural engineering to develop appropriate repair solutions to existing structures.

Qualifications and Competencies
Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited University, Master's degree preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Professional license in structural or civil engineering, or ability to obtain licensure within 4 years is required.
  • Solid knowledge of structural engineering.
  • Strong computer, writing, communication, and team skills are necessary.
  • Coursework:
  • Prestressed Concrete Structures
  • Willingness to travel to job sites, with occasional travel for conferences.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in the design or restoration and construction of pre-cast, post-tensioned, and reinforced concrete structures is desired.
