This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Position Summary
This position serves as an Environmental Field Operations Technician (CH-TRU Environmental Compliance Technician) supporting clean-up operations as a result of past TRU processing activities.
The CH-TRU Environmental Field Operations Technician will provide environmental protection support and work with CH-TRUs Environmental Professionals, and staff throughout the CH-TRU organization to identify and solve environmental compliance issues. The Environmental Field Operations Technician is responsible for the implementation of environmental compliance policies, and procedures related to N3Bs Environmental Compliance Programs. Specific duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, conducting environmental compliance inspections of waste storage areas, waste storage containers and facilities, to ensure regulatory compliance of these areas.
While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Environmental Field Operations Technician will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
This position reports to the Senior Supervisor, Regulatory Compliance 2.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
- Conducts environmental compliance inspections of operations and facilities throughout CH-TRU to identify, mitigate and correct potential environmental compliance issues.
- Assists Environmental Professionals with environmental investigations, determining corrective actions and preparation of regulatory documents.
- Maintains a good working knowledge of various regulatory requirements and how they impact CH-TRU clean-up operation.
- Provide excellent customer service and partner with client organizations to implement sound environmental protection practices.
- Understands and adheres to all CH-TRU requirements and governance specific to environmental protection.
- Serve as point of contact regarding environmental compliance issues.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- Basic knowledge of and experience with environmental compliance regulations, policies, and procedures including, but not necessarily limited to RCRA, CERCLA, NEPA, SARA, Clean Air and Water Acts and the Los Alamos National Laboratory Hazardous Waste Permit.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of environmental non-compliance impacts to facility operations.
- Basic experience with inspections of Multi Sector General Permit (MSGP) areas, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) areas, waste storage areas, and waste containers.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey major elements of environmental protection, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
Education and Experience Required:
An Associate’s Degree in related discipline and 2 years of related experience.
However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
Education Equivalency: 2 years of relevant experience for 1 year of college.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Normally assigned to perform work in an office environment with occasional excursions to perform field oversight activities. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline.
