As the Environmental Impact Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting and implementing environmental programs and tools that help to address Patagonia’s environmental footprint. You will have deep technical understanding of environmental impacts, measurement, and mitigation efforts across a corporates value chain. The Specialist will be part of the Environmental Impact Team, within the Product Impact and Innovation Department and will directly apply their skills and knowledge to Save Our Home Planet.
In your role, you will support Patagonia’s global supply chain environmental compliance and performance programs and will conduct due diligence and support suppliers with environmental remediation and impact reduction. The specialist will also coordinate with and support our regional environmental program leads, corporate wide GHG inventory and ESG reporting process as well as other key environmental impact initiatives. You will also contribute to our ongoing supply chain decarbonization efforts through program coordination and support.
You will help drive our environmental regulatory due diligence process and will work cross functionally on advising internal stakeholders on upcoming environmental regulations and risk. The Specialist will also contribute their technical skills in helping to implement and evolve Patagonia’s Environmental Profit and Loss (EP&L) tool. There is significant growth opportunity within this role and will allow for exposure not only within the Product Impact and Innovation Department but cross functionally within most Departments at Patagonia.
What You’ll Do
Environmental Impact Program Support (60%)
Supply Chain:
- Support new supplier environmental due diligence process which includes reviewing supplier surveys, interpreting environmental data and adherence to local laws and Patagonia standards as well as communicating results to internal stakeholders.
- Participate in Patagonia cross functional supplier onboarding weekly meetings.
- Maintain and coordinate environmental audit schedules with Ventura and Asia field based Environmental Impact staff.
- Provide support to finished goods and raw material suppliers with environmental remediation efforts through reviewing corrective actions and providing timely feedback.
- Organize and coordinate ongoing environmental supply chain trainings with internal stakeholders (production, materials development, and other applicable teams).
- Conduct research and/or assist with implementation of supply chain carbon and water performance programs.
- Support ongoing research and performance program development around biodiversity, waste, and green chemistry.
- Assist with environmental audits where needed.
Corporate:
- Advise and maintain relationships with global brand responsibility managers and retail operations staff to ensure alignment with corporate wide environmental programs and goals.
- Coordinate, support and/or lead trainings for internal teams on environmental impact programs, initiatives, and goals.
- Develop environmental impact communication materials that can be shared with internal employees.
- Advise global regions on renewable energy procurement and establish process for tracking investments.
Product:
- Participate in and support internal circularity efforts.
- Contribute to LCA process including summarizing and communicating out key findings.
- Support environmental marketing claims substantiation process.
- Support the roll out and evolution of EP&L (Environmental Profit and Loss) tool with the product teams.
- Liaison with key internal stakeholders on developing communications materials on environmental impact topics.
ESG Due Diligence and Reporting (30%)
- Coordinate with Supply Chain & Corporate Environmental Impact Sr. Analyst to support ongoing environmental reporting requirements (B Corp, BRM, NGO requests).
- Research global environmental compliance regulations (due diligence, climate disclosure, extended producer responsibility, environmental impact product labeling), create and maintain database and communicate requirements to key internal stakeholders.
Industry Organizations (10%)
- Engage with industry wide organizations (SAC, TE, Fashion for Good, OIA Climate Action Corp, WBCSD etc.)
- Provide ongoing updates to Environmental Impact team and other internal stakeholders on key industry initiatives.
International and/or domestic travel requirements about 10% of time.

Experience You Bring
- Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, or relevant sciences.
- 3+ years’ experience working in a corporate environmental role and/or consulting on ESG topics.
- Expertise in environmental policy, regulation and compliance with environmental due diligence, extended producer responsibility (EPR), product environmental labeling and/or climate disclosure requirements.
- Knowledge of apparel supply chains, manufacturing processes, and the related environmental and chemical impacts.
- Experience in conducting and/or interpreting LCA data.
- Background in corporate wide voluntary ESG reporting (B Corp, GRI, SASB).
- Experience with Scope 1-3 GHG accounting in line with the greenhouse gas protocol (GHGP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
