Job description

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking a part-time (0.5 FTE/20 hours per week) community advocate to join CLF’s New Hampshire team and Environmental Justice Program to expand CLF’s environmental justice advocacy. The successful candidate will be based in New Hampshire and will be part of a dynamic team of advocates working to advance environmental justice in and among low-income, immigrant, and communities of color that are experiencing disproportionate environmental burdens and inequitable access to environmental benefits. This is a three-year position supported by grant funding.

What you’ll do

The community advocate will work independently and as part of state-based and regional teams to build communities and partnerships to advocate for environmental justice in New Hampshire, with a focus on Nashua, and to advance local and statewide policies and decisions that better protect the health and environment of communities that are experiencing disproportionate health and environmental impacts.

The community advocate will:

  • Cultivate and build alliances with community groups, other advocacy groups, and residents to identify environmental problems disproportionately affecting the health of people and neighborhoods in Nashua;
  • Work with local partners in Nashua to identify and implement local solutions to the problems identified in collaboration with residents;
  • Cultivate and build relationships with community partners, public officials, and business leaders to help build an advocacy community in Nashua that can mobilize to achieve needed change to improve the health and environment of marginalized communities and work for environmental justice;
  • Work with other CLF advocates to identify and implement legal and policy strategies to advance environmental justice issues identified in collaboration with community members and at the statewide level; and
  • Collaborate with CLF’s Communications team to develop public educational materials, articles, opinion pieces and communicate about advocacy work through media outlets and social media.

What you’ll need

We are looking for a motivated and mature self-starter who can work independently, and as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team, to advance CLF’s environmental justice goals in New Hampshire, with a specific focus on Nashua, and in coordination with our current Environmental Justice Advocate.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Community organizing experience or skills that will make you an effective community advocate;
  • Relationships with communities and potential allies in New Hampshire, with a focus in Nashua;
  • A commitment to social and environmental justice and to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Coalition and network building skills, including an ability to communicate and collaborate within diverse and multicultural communities;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • An ability to develop creative and strategic approaches to achieving advocacy goals; and
  • Planning, project management, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple advocacy projects.

About CLF
