Your Role With Us:

As an Epic Application Specialist, you will identify the correlation between patients’ healthcare needs and coverage(s) available with patients’ health insurance plan(s) for inpatient and outpatient services offered by Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics (SHHC). This position works with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders (e.g., insurance carriers, Epic Analysts, Access Services and Revenue Cycle team members, etc.) to assure eligibility and health insurance coverage information remains up to date, accurate, and identifies the correct coverage for service need. This position ensures health insurance information is displayed accurately in the electronic patient record by automating data processing so that accurate estimates are created and presented to patients within established periods. The Epic Application Specialist plays a significant role in ensuring that SHHC remains regulatory compliant while providing the highest possible level of service and care to our patient populations.

Core Functions:

· Plans, analyzes, designs, implements, tests, debugs, and maintains Epic software applications related to insurance eligibility and patients' benefits.

· Proactively engages in workflow analysis and research to ensure complex calculations and mapping of insurance benefit options provide an accurate financial responsibility estimate for patients. Provides troubleshooting support to improve system performance and resolve complex issues, as they arise.

· Provides at-the-elbow ongoing training to team members performing pre-registration, registration, and check-in functions to calculate accurate estimates and patients’ financial responsibility using eligibility responses from a variety of electronic and manual sources.

· Performs regular check-ins with assigned end-user customers to provide needed support, minor enhancement opportunities, and to manage business relationships.

Background/Expertise:

· Bachelor’s degree or at least three (3) years of relevant experience.

  • Minimum of (3) years of Epic related experience required.

· Minimum of (3) years of experience in Admitting, Ambulatory Services, or Revenue Cycle.

  • EPIC Certification preferred.

· Kaizen basics course within first year of employment.

  • Advanced knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures related to visit types and insurance coverage/benefits for visit types in a wide range of Hospital Based (HB) service areas.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs, including compiling peripheral items (e.g., tip sheets, reference material, etc.).

· Basic understanding of Lean/Kaizen preferred.
