The Executive Director shall have responsibility for the planning, staffing, controlling and actuating of the operations and management of the Fredericka Manor CCRC / Life Plan community. RCFE certificate and NHA license required. BS or MS degree required.

Responsibilities:

Planning

  • Responsible for the formulation of long range plans and objectives, plans and programs for the development of departments and services in the facility, and works with the Divisional VP and other members of the staff to integrate facility endeavors into overall corporate objectives, plans and programs.
  • Responsible for assuring that each department in the facility maintains a plan of organization suitable to the objectives of that department, and authorizes major additions, elimination or alterations of these plans.
  • Responsible to recommending to the Divisional VP specific proposals for entry into or departure from specific services in the facility.

Staffing

  • Responsible for providing optimum utilization of Facility staff by insuring that the facility’s management team is staffed with competent personnel; that these persons are delegated appropriate authority and responsibility to perform their jobs; that necessary reservations of authority are defined and understood.
  • Responsible, under guidelines and staffing levels authorized in the corporate office, for insuring that staffing and salary and wage structures are developed, maintained and properly controlled.
  • Responsible for providing a workplace atmosphere in which a high degree of morale can be maintained, and for such other general staffing responsibilities common to all facility executive directors as are not specified above.

Controlling

  • Responsible for insuring that authorized plans and programs of the facility are properly executed and that both the Executive director and the President are kept informed as to the overall conditions and trends affecting the facility.
  • Responsible for evaluating the need for and effectiveness of existing or proposed facility policies; authorizes changes in facility policy within established guidelines, and recommends to the President appropriate action for establishment of corporate policy.
  • Responsible for insuring that authorized budget goals are met within the facility and will recommend policies and basic procedures governing budgets and financial controls.
  • Responsible for maintaining and safeguarding the property and funds of the facility in accordance with accepted practice and the procedures established, and for such other general controlling responsibilities common to all facility executive directors as are not specified above.

Actuating

  • Responsible, within the limit of the authority delegated, for executing contracts and commitments on behalf of the facility and will recommend appropriate actions on such matters requiring a corporate officer signature.
  • The Executive Director is responsible, within the limit of the authority delegated, for approving operating and capital expenditures and will recommend appropriate action on amounts requiring corporate review and approval.
  • Responsible for resident occupancy in both the independent living apartments and the nursing section of the community. This involves direct supervision of the sales staff; working with the corporate office on establishing sales goals and marketing materials as well as working with the different staff departments to ensure the building, the apartments and the facility overall is accepting of new residents. In addition, the Executive Director works closely with the Board members and officers who serve as the members of the community admissions committee.
  • Responsible for developing annual budgets for corporate office review in the format required by the corporation.
  • Responsible for maintaining a close liaison with facility residents, keeping informed at all times of their needs and desires.
  • Responsible for cooperating with all municipal, county, state and national departments, bureaus and commissions which maintain or exercise regulatory authority over the safety or other operating conditions of a retirement residence as well as with professional organizations which have an interest in the medical, nursing, social service, educational and recreational aspects of the program.
  • The Executive Director shall endeavor to encourage residents to consider gifts and bequest to their facility and the Foundation in keeping with the Foundation’s status as a not-for-profit charitable corporation dedicated to “security and the full life” for all residents, even if they outlive their assets.
  • The Executive Director shall represent the facility in communication with the community and with regulatory authorities, and is responsible for actuating such other general responsibilities common to all facility executive directors as are not specified above.

Relationships

  • The facility Executive Director is accountable to the Divisional VP for proper interpretation and fulfillment of his functions, responsibilities and authority.
  • As delegated in this job description or elsewhere in writing, the Executive Director exercises the authority of the chief executive in relation to the facility assigned to him and keeps the Divisional VP informed as to use of these delegated authorities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Ability to convey a vision of organization’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Strong public speaking ability

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree
  • 5-10 or more years senior nonprofit management experience
  • Administrative experience in hospital, institutional or retirement resident management.
  • Residential Care Facility for the Elderly(RCFE) Administrator Certificate.
  • NHA License in CA.
