The Executive Director oversees all operations of Miami Film Festival (MFF) programs and activities, including the alignment and branding of all film and ancillary programming occurring under the MFF umbrella. The position provides overall leadership in the artistic, business, financial, operations, and development functions of the Miami Film Festival. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Oversees the artistic, budget, staffing and administrative operations of the MFF
  • Ensures sound financial management of the organization by prudently managing the organization’s resources and develop MFF’s annual budget while ensuring all financial compliance and reporting activities are carried out according to current laws and College standards
  • Manages and facilitates all logistic and production functions for the Festival (i.e., technical coordination, transportation, lodging, communications, and venues)
  • Directs, plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates administrative services in the areas of customer services, facilities management, security, custodial, rental services, special event, community services, staffing, budget; works with staff in creating and implementing strategic plans for the organization
  • Builds key alliances in the business and arts community, shares responsibility for fundraising and provides leadership and vision to the programmers
  • Collaborates and participates as the leader with the programmers in balancing the artistic initiatives of the MFF with financial realities
  • Forges and maintains important external local/regional/national relationships
  • Develops and supports key fundraising relationships, especially with major institutional donors, and continues the nurturing and growth of long-held partnerships
  • Participates with staff in fundraising, membership, corporate sponsorships, government, and foundation grants cultivation/solicitation opportunities
  • Serves as a spokesperson for organization
  • Oversees all public relations, press, marketing, and advertising strategies, with the Marketing Manager
  • Assumes responsibility for the management of the human resources of the organization
  • Hires and manages all organizational personnel, including development, financial and operational staff
  • Serves as liaison to the College on all MFF activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field and six (6) years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree in related field and ten (10) years of experience
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge and skill in communicating effectively utilizing public relations and marketing principles and practices
  • Ability to create a positive and productive working environment, achieve strong collaboration across the organization, and inspire others to produce and deliver their best work
  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Skill in budget preparation
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedure, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Skill in performance management and employee development
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, community organizations and the general public
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff

Essential Position

  • This function/position has been designated as essential. This means that when the College is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the College.
