POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the VP of Youth Development, the Executive Director of School Age Care is responsible for overseeing the development of all school-aged licensed child care and camp operational areas (to include Before/After Care sites, summer and school vacation programs, associated grants, and the Kids Unlimited Program). This position assists with the recruitment, training and support of all assigned staff in delivering the highest level of programming to program participants through experienced, quality, efficient and courteous delivery of services. The Executive Director of School Age Care will serve as a member of the Leadership Team for the YMCA of Frederick County association and will be integral in strategic planning and development.

He/she must have the ability to demonstrate understanding of program development and management in both Camps and Licensed Child Care; effective and efficient time management; demonstrate capacity for managing and leading people; excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and coaching skills, and organizational skills; ability to exemplify a “Y-Voice” that demonstrates determination, genuine concern, welcoming attitude, hopefulness and a nurturing spirit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Staff Development:

  • Work in conjunction with HR to recruit, hire, train and develop personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Supervise, and schedule staff team as needed.
  • Develop performance standards for all direct reports, conduct annual performance reviews.


Core Dept Areas of Responsibility:

  • Assigned Department areas include school age sites, summer programs, and the Kids Unlimited Program.
  • Directly manage all school age care operations to support program growth, retention and excellent customer service.
  • Expected to meet or exceed all licensing standards and compliance for childcare and camp (MSDE, MDH, EXCELS, etc).
  • Must maintain a healthy relationship with key departments that help to support childcare, camp, membership, and program operations.


Financial Responsibilities:

  • Assist with financial development activities of the branch specifically the annual campaign and send a kid to camp campaign.
  • Oversee and support various YMCA special events.
  • Organize and coordinate the annual Healthy Kids Day event on behalf of the association.
  • Develops and initiates grant requests to augment program offerings.
  • Develops and administers the budget and exercises necessary controls to assure operations are maintained within the approved budget. When necessary, carries out adjustments in operations to assure a surplus from operations.


Strategic Planning:

  • Assists with strategic planning efforts and development of the annual operating plan for all school age childcare and camp operations.
  • Serve as directed on association task forces, committees, and attend all necessary board meetings.
  • Assure professional growth through training, reading, conferences, studying, etc. of the entire School Age Leadership team.


Administration:

  • Perform quality work within given deadlines and expectations with or without direct supervision.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other appropriate individuals and departments.
  • Gather data and reports as required for assigned program areas.
  • Ensure branding, communication and marketing meet Association standards for all responsible programs.
  • Ensure that all program course information is prepared for inclusion into the data base/operating system.
  • Responsible for all administrative paperwork and records for program operations and reporting.


Facility and Risk Management:

  • Assure compliance with state and local regulations. Ensure that program standards, emergency action plans and other safety protocols are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Making sure YMCA policies and procedures are adhered to both by self and within areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure management and quality of the facilities and equipment in all childcare and camp areas.


Community Building:

  • Interact professionally with other employees, members, program participants, volunteers, and other individuals within the community, always being mindful of the YMCA’s mission, vision and values.
  • Develops and maintains contacts in the community with business and civic leaders, interpreting the work of school age care, soliciting interest and support, and enlarging the scope of branch and camp services.
  • Serve effectively as a team leader/contributor on all assignments.
  • Serve as Leader on Duty as scheduled.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Ideally in Education, Camp, or other Youth Development specific area.
  • Minimum of five years of staff management experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership role running camp programs.
  • Experience and/or understanding of how to align programs to academic, social-emotional, character and physical youth development.
  • Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our community.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.


YMCA CERTIFICATES/TRAININGS:

  • Blood borne Pathogen Training
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen Certification
  • Code of Conduct Training
  • Completion of YUSA Multi- Team branch leader Certification within two years of start date of employment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the YMCA insurance carrier with an acceptable driving record
  • Acceptable screening results with comprehensive background check
