Job description
We are looking for assistants to join our School Based Sealant Dental Program for the 2022-2023 Chicago Public School year. Contracted with The Chicago Department of Public Health to provide prevented dental services to children in CPS. Preventative services include exam, prophy, sealants and fluoride varnish placement. Requirements are posted below and all discussed during interview.
***Applicant should have certificate in Expanded Function, coronal polishing and sealant placement.
EFDA Qualifications and Job Descriptions:
Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) Responsibilities:
- Assist with oral health management of all patients-being a team player at all times
- Verify the identity of patient using name and date of birth prior to administering treatment.
- Follow Covid protocols for self and patients.
- Review medical history and other pertinent oral health information, working closely with Dentist.
- Provide oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted best practices and standards.
- Dentists or hygienists will be responsible for scaling and removing supragingival calculus and staining.
- Manages the infection control plans to meet OSHA, CDC and standards.
- Handles instrument cleaning, sterilization/disinfection, and re-circulation
- Performs dental treatment room disinfection
- Provide dental assistance as directed by the dentist
- Provide oral health education and individual counseling to each patient according to known oral health care practices (e.g. tooth brushing, flossing)
- Document provided dental services on the patient’s chart in laptops.
- Daily travel to and from school sites
- Evenings, weekends and summers off.
- Working a school day schedule (about 6 – 7 hours); on average between 8:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.

- Before schools are scheduled, they will assist in analyzing Consent collection, preparation of consents for school scheduling.
- On down time, Participation in case management calls and promotions
General Working Conditions: This position entails situations of prolonged sitting and standing, as well as working in tight spaces. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to lift 50+ pounds and assist with unloading, set up, break down, and reloading equipment into school and back. This position requires the dexterity and motor skills to handle dental instruments, sterilizers, air compressors and other equipment as needed to perform job tasks. The employee must follow safety guidelines to protect themselves and patients from infectious diseases. The work environment is fast paced, requiring adaptability to interact with children and adults.
