S&L is seeking a Distribution Field Technician to grow our Distribution Design team. The position requires walking and/or driving between spans of distribution electric poles to collect technical data about electric utility assets and equipment. Work is performed outdoors under possible extreme weather and environmental conditions such as cold, heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and exposure to oils, dust, dirt, fumes and noises.
- Prepare site visit criteria, details, and materials for each facility location including:
- Safety forms
- Route maps
- Information to be collected
- Work independently or in a team to perform outdoor field inspections of distribution facilities and assets
- Collect data including geographic locations, field notes, and digital images.
- Identify potential risks for construction not limited to environmental, situational, and/or customer issues.
- Operate and maintain equipment that would include a tablet, GPS locator devices, digital camera, range finders and personal protective equipment.
- Work professionally in the field as a Sargent & Lundy representative.
- Communicate effectively and daily with the engineering and project management team.
- Work safely and independent of supervision.
Dependent upon your location, this opportunity offers a generous relocation package.
Qualifications:

Essential skills and experience:
- High school diploma.
- 15+ years of experience in utility distribution inspections and/or construction.
- 10+ years of technical experience in a utility setting.
- 10+ years of experience with various electric distribution equipment and systems.
- Basic proficiency with computers including the ability to read, interpret and follow GPS maps.
- Basic proficiency with tablets including data capture tools and cloud storage
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow process specifications and guidelines.
- Ability to travel and to work outside in variable terrain and weather conditions.
- Must have reliable transportation (Ability to pass a motor vehicle report) and valid driver’s license.
- Conduct and present themselves in a professional manner.
- Pass background check upon hire.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, internal personnel, and the public.
- Ability to be alert to traffic and aware of both safe and unsafe procedures and situations that may occur or be present while in the field.
- Research all utilities that may be on a site prior to visit.
- Exercise extreme caution near or around any utility facility and follow all applicable job site safety parameters.
- Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Associate's Degree in Computer Aided Design.
- Familiarity with GIS software.
