The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) is currently recruiting for multiple Facilities Repair Worker-Advanced positions at our Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary


Under general supervision, this position will work mainly on floor removal, assist with installation of new flooring, and perform light maintenance duties as needed. Although this is a Limited Term Employment position the expectation may be to work up to 40 hours/week.

Salary Information


The wage is $17.46/hour, no benefits.

The pay schedule/range is 03/12.

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details


Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Employees at this healthcare facility are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by date of hire. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis for exemptions to this requirement in accordance with applicable law.

Qualifications


Minimally-qualified applicants must have knowledge of:

  • preventive maintenance and repairs to buildings and assist with more complex repairs as needed
  • principles, methods and practices for using power tools and heavy equipment
  • knowledge of procedures and practices required for Lockout/Tag out
  • safety techniques, tools, and materials used in the electrical and mechanical trades
  • Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet requirements

Ability to:

  • employ proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) commensurate with assigned duties
  • remove and install commercial flooring products
  • use test equipment to determine the safety and functionality of tested unit
  • perform move, remove, and install objects, occasionally exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force
  • climb and work on ladders and/or scaffolding
  • work with loud, shaking and/or vibrating equipment
  • observe and react to hazards and changing conditions in the environment
  • follow policies and practices regarding safety
  • work independently and as a member of a team
