DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to creating and promoting public health innovations to advance equity, justice, and wellbeing for all and has more than 80 primary salaried faculty, 20 secondary faculty, 250+ personnel, 225 postgraduate students, and over 650 undergraduate majors. The School includes activities in the public health disciplines of biostatistics and bioinformatics, epidemiology, global health, health policy, health behavior, health equity, public mental health, environmental and climate health, and preventive medicine.

The School has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Research Centers of Excellence focused on wireless and population health systems, health promotion and equity, women's health, and tobacco control, and has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Jacobs School of Engineering, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Moores Cancer Center, Design Lab, Qualcomm Institute, ACTRI, HDSI, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School.

The School houses five recharge cores providing services to UC San Diego and external customers. Research in the School includes ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts. The School has and administers two PhD programs (public health and biostatistics), a Master of Public Health professional degree program, a MS in Biostatistics, the only Health Sciences undergraduate program (BSPH), a Master of Applied Science in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations run in conjunction with UC San Diego Extension, and a Preventive Medicine Residency program.

The Faculty Support Coordinator provides a variety of complex administrative support functions for the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science (HWSPH) and its faculty, including coordinating and scheduling meetings and faculty recruitment visits; organizing conferences, teleconferences, and other school and programmatic events; coordinating travel arrangements and processing entertainment and travel reimbursements; purchasing; assisting with preparation, editing, and formatting of presentation materials, grant applications, and journal manuscripts; and performing other duties as assigned that require tact, independent analysis, judgement, diplomacy, organizational skills, and discretion.

Uses professional concepts to apply organization policies and procedures to oversee a variety of ongoing administrative operational issues. Administers defined operational program. Analyzes and resolves operational problems of moderate scope.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four (4) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective, productive, and cooperative professional relationships with employees at all levels of the organization and with outside individuals and work collaboratively with individuals and groups to incorporate their ideas and adapt to their needs.

  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Ability to set priorities in order to meet established deadlines; skills to work effectively in a high volume environment, dealing with numerous detailed projects simultaneously on short deadlines. Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.

  • Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Zoom, Doodle and with working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel as well as browsers and a variety of web-related programs. Working knowledge of presentation systems such as projectors and lecture hall audio.

  • Demonstrated experience in arranging and coordinating complex travel.

  • Ability to research data from a variety of sources, identifying and extracting relevant data.

  • Experience in arranging, coordinating, and hosting visitors such as faculty recruitment candidates and speakers, including accommodations, transportation, group meals, multi-day itineraries, etc.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, but also function effectively as part of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of NIH (and other) grant proposal components, steps, biosketches, and review and manuscript submission.
  • Knowledge of UC academic policies and procedures. Understanding of UCSD and UCOP organizational structures, departments and units, and communication channels.
  • Background and theoretical knowledge in Public Health research, education, and practice.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,782 - $93,960 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $29.11 - $45.00

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
