Hamilton Pool Farm School, located in Dripping Spring TX, is seeking part-time Farm School Lead Teachers to begin in January 2023.

Our program is entirely outdoors, rain or shine, on our 65 acres land, with a few indoor locations for inclement weather days. The Farm, where the school is located, is a 1.5 acre organic, regenerative & biodynamic working farm. Students range in ages from 3-15 years. We have 5 different classes with the following age groups: Class 1: 3-4 year olds, Class 2: 5-6 year olds, Class 3: 7-8 year olds, Class 4: 9-10 year olds, Class 5: 11-15 years old.

Each teacher/class has its own curriculum that uses Waldorf based child development philosophies and combines nature and gardening activities that evolve with the different seasons. Activities done during the winter semester will look very different from the spring semester and so on. We aim to immerse the students in experiential learning opportunities while using the farm as a living classroom to experience, connect and explore. The Farm School program aims to foster a deep connection, love, and respect for the natural world while enhancing the skills and knowledge connected to environmental science, ecology, sustainability, agriculture, community, service learning, and wellness.

Teaching position requires 5 hours of teaching time with 2 additional hours of prep time per class. Teachers may be offered to teach 1or 2 classes a week typically on a Friday or Saturday. Teaching position will require paid training time prior to commencement of the program in January. Pay is $25 an hour or more based on experience.

The teacher's role is one of a mentor and s/he will model the qualities of collaboration, energy, initiative, empathy, and flexibility. S/he will work in a team environment, sometimes collaborating with other teachers, the Head Farmer and Program Director. Responsibilities include taking an active role in deepening the curriculum outline that is provided. Keeping in good communication with parents and the Director. Taking an active role in understanding farm methods and nature skills in order to deliver best educational opportunities for students.

Applicants should have teaching experience specifically with children and outdoor education and demonstrated outdoor class management and group facilitation. Knowledge and or interest in topics ranging from wilderness survival skills, small scale organic farming or home gardening, sustainable systems, permaculture, environmental science, plant medicine and health. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations including youth and adults with strong communication skills. Ability to be flexible and work independently.
