Sales Engineer/Field Application Engineer - Brandon, SD
Work with our sales and engineering departments to create proposal drawings of fire trucks for bid packages. Assist in quoting of fire apparatus both for domestic and international markets.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
- Use computer assisted design/drafting (AutoCAD) to develop sales drawing layouts for the quoting process
- Utilize knowledge of various truck configurations, engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings
- Draft detailed multi-view drawings of trucks, components and special applications as required
- Perform necessary calculations for estimated weight and balances of the proposed layout and identify concerns as needed to alter the layout to a workable solution
- Maintain drawing libraries and templates to aid in daily functions
- May represent Spartan ERV at industry shows, some travel will be required
- Interact with vendors/purchasing as required concerning parts they supply or propose to supply to company for customers product
- Assist the field salesman in configuring solutions to the customer requirements through communications
- Provide input to R&D concerning potential design improvements that provide ease of use for the end user
- Log and track submitted requests for completion within the Sales Management Tool software
- Special pricing of components requested in the specifications using the current spec writing tool (Quote Writer)
- Assist in developing specifications for both the domestic and international markets
- Maintenance of current spec writing tool (Quote Writer)
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
AA Degree in related field or equivalent experience in CAD/Drafting
Detail oriented with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
Excellent time management skills and Strong organizational skills
Ability to multi-task, effective time management skills
Thorough understanding of the production manufacturing operations and design integration for manufacturability
Will require detailed knowledge in all areas of the apparatus, specifically structural design but also electrical and
plumbing
Energetic, motivated, team player
Fluent in English, both written and oral
Efficient computer skills in MS Office, Outlook and other software programs
Knowledge of: CAD and manual drafting principles, practices, methods and techniques; and general mechanical
engineering principles
High skill level in AutoCAD and Solid Works CAD software is beneficial, will train a qualified individual
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers is essential
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time and stand and walk occasionally. The associate frequently is required to talk or hear. The associate is required to reach with hands and arms. Work will require frequent use of computer, telephone, and general office equipment.
The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
General office environment. The noise level ranges from quiet to moderate. Environment may be warm or cool, depending on weather and other factors. Some exposure to production environment.
SCHEDULE:
Hours depend on business and department needs. All positions are subject to overtime as needed. Overtime can be scheduled by adding additional days to the scheduled days for the week or by extending the hours worked. See a supervisor for information on overtime worked in a particular department.
