DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego and employs 486+ full-time salaried faculty members and 100+ academic appointees. Staff personnel include 600+ staff in 9 bargaining units, students, and volunteers. There are 250 clinical faculty practicing at multiple sites.

Under the supervision of the primary investigator (PIs), the incumbent will support research-related activities targeting HIV-affected and Spanish-speaking communities. This includes a research project funded by the California HIV/AIDS Research Program to facilitate the community-led development, implementation, and evaluation of programming designed by and for Black and Latina transgender women in San Diego County to support sustained engagement in HIV services.

In this role, duties include: 1) Field coordination. Administering intervention protocols with participants. Training, supervising, and liaising with study staff, community partners and the PI to establish/maintain strong community rapport, collect high quality data, and ensure compliance with study protocols. 2) Data collection and coordination. Assist in the development and administration of qualitative and quantitative instruments. Monitor data collection protocols and provide technical assistance to maintain high fidelity. 3) Project administrative support. Support inclusive, linguistically and culturally appropriate participant recruitment and community engagement activities. Assist with study related reports and dissemination activities. Work collaboratively with the PI, community collaborators, and study related staff to meet study objectives and deadlines. Other duties assigned as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Theoretical knowledge as typically acquired by a Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology or similar field.

  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices.

  • Experience conducting working in collaboration with community based organizations.

  • Ability to comply with confidentiality and human subjects requirements in the context of medical/public health research.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively and productively as part of an academic research team.

  • Strives at all times to present a positive attitude and pleasant, professional demeanor.

  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to assist with completion of Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, literature reviews, abstracts and manuscripts.

  • Must have a valid CA driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  • Knowledge of person-first language and inclusive language used in sexual, gender, and racial/ethnic minority populations.

  • Experience working with the LGBTQ community and persons living with or affected by HIV infection, particularly young Latino and Black MSM, in San Diego County.

  • Experience working with bilingual (English and Spanish) communities.

  • Knowledge of HIV transmission, care, prevention, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Occasional evenings and weekends will be required.
  • Wiling to interact with sexual and gender minority communities, trauma- and HIV-affected communities, including persons who are criminal justice involved, actively using drugs, or engaged in sex work.
  • Willing to model and support the use of people first and equity-focused language.
  • Must have a valid CA driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,564 - $90,995 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.09 - $43.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
