Position Summary

Our Field Service Technicians are responsible for providing both high-level on-site and remote support to both Lightning eMotors’ customers and service providers. This position resolves technical issues (mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic) timely in order to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. This position will also serve as a technical resource, assisting customers and service providers with identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving in-field issues.

This position is 100% remote and will be based out of the greater Miami area. This position requires mostly local travel but non-local travel, as assigned, should be expected. We anticipate that our technicians will travel upwards of 60% of their time and travel requirements can be sudden and unexpected. Per our travel policy, Lightning eMotors covers related travel costs for our technicians including flights, hotels, meals, tolls, mileage, and other related items. Additional details will be provided as we progress through our process.

You must have a clean driving record and a valid driver's license to be employed by Lightning eMotors as a Field Service Technician.

As Lightning continues to expand our network of electric fleet vehicles, we will also continue to expand our network of field technicians. This is an on-going search. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and well-qualified candidates will be contacted!

Responsibilities

  • Resolve technical issues as reported or scheduled through customer service calls; collaborate with Engineering and/or other departments to provide effective product support
  • Install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain existing and future Lightning eMotors products
  • Create field reports for common and severe vehicle failure modes to inform engineering teams of field corrective action and opportunities for product improvement
  • Develop and maintain service information as well as vehicle history using service database and other software tools
  • Provide field feedback on diagnostic tools (software and hardware tools) to improve functionality and ease of use
  • Work with engineers to identify mechanical and electrical faults, failures, and modifications required on vehicles and systems
  • Work toward achieving goals of minimal vehicle downtime, remote diagnostic response times, on-site diagnostic and assistance proficiency
  • Provide technical mentorship for local service locations, promoting best practices, safety and efficiency
  • Provide on-site training for Lightning eMotors customers (driver and technician training) as needed
  • Uphold and foster a positive work environment and a culture of collaboration
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Technically savvy: Mechanical and electrical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to read drawings, prints, schematics, and diagrams as well as ability to build knowledge and understanding of Lightning’s service documentation, processes, and procedures.

  • Safety focused: You should keep safety in the forefront of your mind, demonstrating safe work practices and complying with safety procedures. You should have a safe driving record and maintain a valid driver’s license.

What we require:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of tooling used in today’s automotive industry
  • 2+ years of automotive experience performing advanced technical diagnosis on modern vehicle systems
  • Basic harness and wiring knowledge with ability to troubleshoot using circuit diagrams and workshop manuals
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license

What we prefer:

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited automotive technical school (ASE preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience with Electric Vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Demonstrated experience with medium and/or heavy-duty trucks
  • CDL-Class B with a P endorsement
