Erie Neighborhood House, a community-building agency empowering Chicago’s low-income and immigrant families, and dedicated to promoting a just and inclusive society is seeking a Temporary Food Aide.

The Food Aide (temporary, full -time) will be a position in partnership with the department of Early Child Care Education directly impacting Chicago’s low-income and immigrant families.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Site Director, the Food Aide’s basic function is assisting the kitchen team in all food preparation and clean up, as well as delivery of the food to the classrooms.

  • Ensure that all food is prepared and held in a safe and sanitary manner following the current menu
  • Portions food correctly into family style serving dishes and delivers food and proper serving utensils to the classrooms in a timely manner
  • Assists kitchen team in completing inventory of food and ordering food on a weekly basis
  • Assists in the clean-up of dishes, pots, pans, and food preparation areas in accordance with all Board of Health and state licensing sanitation practices
  • Washes and disinfects sheets, blankets and children’s clothing (when soiled) according to Illinois Department of Children and Family Services licensing standards.
  • Responsible for the program complying with Erie, the Board of Education and all State licensing requirements and performance standards, including promoting the health and safety of all children, following sanitation procedures and universal precautions, completing a bi-annual physical exam, complying with the Confidentiality and Child Abuse and Neglect Act as a mandated reporter, as well as the American with Disabilities Act and Erie’s Inclusion Policy
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be reliable and punctual
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrate the following qualities: self-motivated, self-directed, follows directions, makes good judgments, dependable
  • Current Illinois Food Safety Manager certification
  • Food Handler Certificate
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Upon offer of employment, must complete all forms related to hiring, including Erie’s application for employment and provide three letters of recommendation. Must complete all DCFS forms and submit to fingerprinting and a background check
