Summary: Direct the operation of Food & Nutrition Services. Performs a variety of duties including the planning and supervision of special functions, maintaining cash control, payroll records, hiring and training of personnel. Ensures customer satisfaction and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient uses of resources.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Food Service Staff
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Evaluates, directs and manages the function and structure of food and nutrition services, ensuring that all client expectations and regulatory standards are being appropriately monitored and adhered to.
Develops and oversees appropriate goals and action plans that will meet and/or exceed established client expectations.
Evaluates the production, safe handling and quality of all food prepared and distributed to ensure that it is consistent with MHFS policy and procedures for quality food service.
Evaluates, develops, and ensures the provision of ongoing training and development for all department staff, consistent with operational and strategic needs of the client and MHFS.
Provides primary direction and leadership for all customer service initiatives, including the appropriate recruitment, selection, and development of staff.
Develops customer service evaluation mechanisms to ensure that ongoing information is retrieved and evaluated for improvement purposes.
Initiates all WITY and Expectation meetings and implements outcomes as assigned.
Complies with federal, state and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures as evidenced through local health department and third-party audits.
Maintains a clean, sanitary working environment.
Complies with regulatory agencies, including federal, state and JCAHO as evidenced by successful completion of surveys with no deficiencies.
Follows facility and department Infection Control policies and procedures.
Adheres to facility confidentiality, HIPAA and patient rights policies.
Visits patients on an assigned nursing unit or area and helps ensure that every patient is visited by a member of the management or professional team at least once during their hospital stay.
Ensures that the team is fostering positive communications with the nursing staff.
Ensures staff assists in achieving stated patient and customer satisfaction goals.
Participates in facility-wide Performance Improvement Program and on Performance Improvement teams to improve processes and patient/resident care.
Follows facility, department, Morrison and Compass Safety policies and procedures to include occurrence reporting.
Wears name tag identification and is aware of role in minimizing security incidents.
Follows the facility’s protocols for Hazardous Materials and Waste Program.
Adheres to Emergency Preparedness Program. Participates in disaster drills as appropriate.
Adheres to Life Safety Program and participates in fire drills as appropriate.
Responds to utility failures per Department policy and adheres to Lock-out/Tag-out policies where appropriate.
Communicates effectively with all team members, patients and families through conferences, individual consultation and committee participation. This includes telephone, written, and electronic communication.
Communicates facility, department, Morrison and Compass information at staff meetings, group presentations and through written memos.
Participates and attends departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs, as appropriate.
Participates in meetings where department goals are established and implements action plan to achieve expected outcomes.
Completes and posts work schedules for management and supervisory personnel to ensure adequate coverage for all department functions.
Maintains equipment within department in working order by notifying maintenance of needed repairs.
Collaborates with the client liaison and RDO to identify and develop new business initiatives within the account.
Develops annual department budget, including all related costs and expenses, to ensure proper financial performance and efficient use of resources, including labor, food and all related expenses.
Reads and complies with all policies and procedures of Morrison and Compass as appropriate.
Completes all daily, weekly or monthly reports as outlined in the corporate policies and procedures on a timely basis meeting all prescribed deadlines.
Projects and practices consistent ownership attributes, which provide a high level of customer service at all points of contact.
Performs other tasks that may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
B.S. Degree in Food Services Technology/Management or related field, preferred; Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of hospital or nursing home experience, depending upon formal degree and training, preferred. Must meet CMS and/or state regulations regarding educational qualification for Food Service Director (e.g. Certified Dietary Manager).
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
Computer Skills:
Ability to operate a standard computer, including proficient use of MS applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Other Qualifications:
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: ServSafe certified within one (1) year of date of hire.
