Position Description
The primary mission of the Goodman Community Center food program is to produce healthy meals for children, youth, parents and older adults. A secondary goal is to teach teens about locally sourced foods, culinary arts and employment training/experiences in the food industry. This position supports the execution of menus for youth and adult programs.
Essential Functions
- Assist the Assistant Director of Food Resources and Kitchen Manager to meet the daily food production needs and deadlines.
- Follow recipes and portion specifications in accordance with consumer tastes, nutritional needs, ease of preparation and established procedures and budgetary constraints.
- Execute prep and cleaning lists created by Assistant Director of Food Resources and Kitchen Manager.
- Assist in the delivery of on-site senior, afternoon child & youth program meals.
- Assist in putting away food delivery orders in timely manner.
- Help maintain recipes, production schedules, and other required paperwork for CACFP, SFP and the AR programs through the Department of Public Instruction.
- Remain current on all policy and programmatic changes.
- Adhere to and train others on safety, nutrition, food handling, and personal hygiene and sanitation requirements of the Center’s Kitchen & Program policies, licensing and USDA food program guidelines and requirements.
- Teach and mentor teens and support their ongoing success with prompt and constructive feedback.
- Help supervise students and teen employees.
- Help maintain dry storage and refrigeration areas in a clean and organized fashion.
- Help maintain kitchen equipment and cleanliness.
- Support the training of student employees, and volunteers in the safe and proper use of equipment and supplies and required cleaning tasks.
- Follows basic cleaning procedures and proper use of chemicals. Participate in the SDS training. Follow all Safety Data Sheet guidelines.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Provide back up support to Catering Chefs as needed.
- Other duties as assigned in support of kitchen services.
Requirements:Qualifications
- Required to pass background check post-offer.
- Become ServSafe certified within 90-days of employment.
- Proficiency and experience in cooking for groups of 50+.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to accept direction, advice and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic kitchen measurement and math skills.

Pay: $16 an hour
