Forensic Interviewer (Part-Time)


EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 65,000 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Trauma Counselor to work part time for its Victim Assistance Program.

The Trauma Counselor position is a non-exempt position paying $100-150 per hour. The position is part time, 4 hours per week. The office is located in Central Islip, NY. The role reports to Program Director


Primary Purpose of Job:

The Forensic Interviewer will conduct interviewers on child victims of sexual abuse using an evidence based and approved curriculum.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for following the National Children’s Alliance (NCA) protocol for interviewing children who are suspected victims of child abuse (sexual or physical) and witnesses of abuse or violence.
  • Function as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team including law enforcement personnel, case workers, prosecutors, medical and mental health personnel.
  • Participate in monthly case review meetings with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participate in Local, State and National Peer Review meetings on a yearly basis to give and receive feedback about Forensic Interview
  • Conduct professional outreach/advocacy to members of the eastern region of Suffolk County, New York
  • Additional responsibilities include supporting the general day-to-day activities of the CAC, promoting and advocating for the programs offered through NCA, and grant writing support.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • Bi-lingual, English/Spanish preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 2 years’ experience in a field that would prepare the candidate for interviewing suspected victims of child physical or sexual abuse. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience working with victims of child sexual abuse, physical abuse and family violence.
  • Good organizational and writing skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others as part of a team.
  • Participation in at least 40 hours of training in the first six months of employment (with an additional 20 hours during the second six months of employment) on Forensic Interviewing , working with adolescents, child development, child abuse, Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking. Training will be provided by outside trainers, EAC NETWORK and by partnering County agencies.
  • Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must have valid New York Driver’s License and access to an automobile.
