This job entails taking orders for and serving food and beverage items to customers in a friendly, enthusiastic, and professional manner while using suggestive selling techniques. Regularly greet, communicate and converse with all guests. Set up and maintain Funny Library in an attractive looking, organized, clean and standardized presentation. Make and serve coffee drinks. Educate and inform customers about the differences among coffee beans, coffee preparation and home brewing methods. Continuously check food to ascertain that appearance, temperature, and portions are correct. Be knowledgeable of all menu items. Be prepared to answer any guest questions in a direct, concise way. The candidate must also clear and clean tables as they are vacated. Listen and respond to guest requests or concerns. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

In helping you understand your role in working for a world class organization, the following is a list of your essential job responsibilities. Please keep in mind that this list is not all inclusive and that you may be asked to perform other job tasks by your supervisors/managers not listed below in the constant quest to provide extraordinary customer service experience for our guests:

  • Must love people and have a passion for serving others and the community
  • Preparation will be key. Prep the coffee bar daily, maintain it during the shift and clean it nightly in preparation for the next shift
  • Maintain a clean, hygienic, and organized work environment including stocking of supplies, washing and polishing glassware, folding napkins, cleaning menus, sanitizing tables, etc.
  • Stock the coffee bar, back of house, coolers FOH & BOH as necessary in accordance with company guidelines regarding liquor requisition, product needed to make all items on the menu
  • Adhere to company standards regarding food and beverage knowledge
  • Orchestrate an extraordinary guest experience through positive guest interaction
  • Be able to guide guests through aspects of our hotel and our city
  • Ensure that guests are of legal drinking age by asking for an appropriate ID card
  • Handle a cash bank and adhere to company policies regarding money handling
  • Accurately enter all items into POS system and charge guests accordingly
  • Comply with sanitation standards and notify management of any issues
WHAT IT TAKES (The Qualities We Look For)

  • Communicate clearly in verbal and written English
  • Comply with all safety and health department procedures as well as all state and federal laws
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per hotel standards
  • Adhere to hotel policies including but not limited to attendance, safety, behavior
Two years' experience as fountain worker or food server in full-service restaurant is preferred. High school or equivalent education required. Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 6-8 hours in length. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. Must be able to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. frequently. Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally. Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.

MUST HAVE'S

  • Current, legal and unrestricted ability to work in the United States
  • High school or equivalent education required.
  • Food Service Handler Card and TIPS certification that is currently valid for a minimum of at least 6 months
  • Preferred: 1-2 years' experience in a full-service restaurant or lounge
Just like you communicate through your smart phone via text, social media, or an actual phone conversation, please communicate directly with your immediate supervisor or manager (Beverage/Restaurant Manager) regarding your work schedule, daily work tasks and responsibilities as well as general work-related issues. Face-to-face conversation is preferred of course!

THE WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Stand for periods of 8-10 hours
  • Lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Bend, squat and stretch in areas of limited space to perform cleaning, organization and other duties
