USS-UPI, LLC a United States Steel Company, (formerly USS-POSCO Industries) a world-class ISO certified steeling finishing facility in Pittsburg, CA. UPI produces cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheets, tin plate and tin-free steel from hot-rolled coils supplied by other U. S. Steel facilities. The facility services sheet and tin mill products customers, principally in the western United States. UPI’s annual production capability is approximately 1.5 million tons.

This job is a core component for our maintenance force and requires a trained and experienced individual to contribute to our success.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs mechanical and up to 24V electrical maintenance troubleshooting and repair necessary to maintain mobile equipment using standard and specialized tools; including laptops with diagnostic software, hydraulic gauges, and Fluke meters.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems, order parts, repair, and maintain a broad range of mechanical and electrical systems on mobile equipment.
  • Use mechanical, electrical, and computer skills to troubleshoot, install, maintain, repair, and operate a broad range of equipment.
  • Emphasis on diesel mechanic work, troubleshooting, reading schematics, electrical, computers, and equipment such as haul trucks, shovels, loaders, and dozers.
  • Mobile equipment systems include diesel engines, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, up to 24V electrical, computer, and power transmission.
  • Provide assistance in operating functions as necessary. This includes operation of equipment, 5S housekeeping, safety hazard recognition, etc.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing and/or industrial experience (including relevant experience gained in military service) or a 2 year technical degree.
  • Experience in the following: hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, lubrication, power transmission systems, welding, pipe-fitting, structural repair, and diesel mechanic.
  • Experience in adhering to safety procedures/guidelines at all times. Safety is our core value which requires you to wear safety protection such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and boots with metatarsal protection.
  • The position requires punctuality, consistent attendance and self-direction for the success of the operations.
  • The position requires overtime work as needed.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required

Physical Demands & Environmental Factors

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, twisting, balancing, climbing, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching/shoulder positions, handling bilateral/unilateral, fingering bilateral/unilateral.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include far acuity, accommodation, and depth perception. Color vision is necessary to identify color-coded materials. Good or well-corrected vision is essential working safely around moving machinery
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, working around moving mechanical parts, noise intensity level, and safety equipment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $32.00 - $33.00 per hour
