Agency Information: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. OSH serves individuals from 36 counties in Kansas in collaboration with 12 Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs). The centers refer individuals for admission to the hospital through a collaborative screening process. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital and Adair Acute Care.

Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary: The Osawatomie State Hospital is in search of two 999 hour GMRT's. In this position you will provide general mechanical repairs, remodeling, alterations, grounds maintenance and support to other trades with Facility Services. This includes assessment of ongoing preventative maintenance, assessment of needed repairs and completion of the repairs with, or without immediate supervision. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that work is completed accurately and professionally in each area.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Quality and Quantity of Work: On routine work employee determines what is needed by examining approved work orders and/or conducting an on-site inspection. In case of a major breakdown or complex troubleshooting situations, supervisor is contacted. Work is to be completed in a neat, operational, workmanlike manner, in a reasonable time frame according to manufacturer’s guidelines, established safety standards and building codes, making the best use of available materials at the most cost savings possible with minimum disruption of service at the work area. Notify responsible parties if a shutdown is necessary. Repair parts, materials, supplies and small tools needed to complete assignments are requisitioned from the warehouse. Tools are to be visually inspected for defect before using, cleaned and serviced as needed, and put away at end of shift. Work area is to be left clean. Complete necessary follow up so there are no more than three call backs per rating period as shown on completed work orders.
Maintain & Make Repairs: Must pursue efficiency and economy when using resources. Proactively review buildings and infrastructure making repairs on the spot when able. Maintain & make repairs to buildings and equipment, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, floors, cabinets, shelves, stool partitions, lighting, outlets, etc., to ensure a safe & aesthetic environment. Provides coverage for the electric shop as needed, including minor electrical repairs.
Remodeling or Alterations—Must be able to assess problematic situations and come up with effective, practical solutions. Assist the carpenters with the interior of existing structures to provide an environment which allows maximum efficiency in hospital operations by installing partitions, ceilings, windows, doors, floors and hanging sheetrock.
Grounds and Campus Maintenance—Trees – Must be productive and practical, with an ability to exercise good judgment when using chemicals. Operates chain saw in trimming trees and removing dead trees, and stump router in removing stumps. Operates posthole digger in planting trees and shrubs and in constructing and/or mending fences. Assist in tree removal, therefore, must have the ability to work at various heights during tree trimming. Lawns – Must be a self-starter with ability to get work completed in a timely fashion, displaying initiative and good judgement while attending daily duties. Operates 15-foot brush hog, 88-inch mower, weed eater, rototiller, and hedge trimmer in maintaining grounds, lawns and hedges. Assists with seeding of newly constructed lawns. Rake leaves using power leaf rake or by hand. Snow & Ice – Operates tractor with blade and truck with sand spreader to remove snow and/or ice from streets and sidewalks.

Licensing & Certification:
Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience in two or more building trades or mechanical building trades or mechanical building trade. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in grounds and building maintenance is a plus.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must be able to do manual labor in the elements. Including but not limited to mowing, shoveling snow, moving furniture; trimming grass, hedges and trees. - Must complete and pass background and drug screen.
