Agency Information: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. OSH serves individuals from 36 counties in Kansas in collaboration with 12 Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs). The centers refer individuals for admission to the hospital through a collaborative screening process. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital and Adair Acute Care.

Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
This position is responsible to operate heavy equipment including skid steer with attachments including backhoe, tractors, brush hogs, finish mowers, and snow equipment to maintain the grounds.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Grounds Maintenance: Performs ongoing grounds maintenance activities - which involves care of lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds and planters. Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions with minimal guidance from supervisor. Must ensure all work is completed in a safe manner. Must utilize clear thinking and be alert to any unsafe conditions, faulty equipment, and other on-the-job hazards and report to supervisor. Will operate chain saw, trimming trees, removing dead trees, and utilizing the stump router to remove stumps. Will operate posthole digger when planting trees and shrubs and in constructing and/or mending fences as needed. Will operate a tractor with all attachments; bucket, blade, spreaders, mowers, push mover, weed eater, rototiller, and hedge trimmer in maintaining grounds, lawns and hedges. Will assist with seedling of newly constructed lawns and rake leaves using power leaf rake or by hand as needed
Maintenance and Repairs: Maintains and repairs grounds equipment within capabilities and training to ensure equipment is safe and in good working order.If equipment is in need of repair, takes action to prevent damage to equipment and immediately notifies the Grounds Supervisor. Makes repairs to equipment within capabilities utilizing safe practices in an efficient manner.
Snow and Ice Removal: Will operate tractor with blade and truck with sand spreader to remove snow and/or ice from streets, sidewalks and building entrances as needed. Will operate other equipment utilized in removal of snow and ice. Must remain flexible in work schedule during inclement weather months to ensure proper coverage, training and equipment maintenance in order to keep streets, sidewalks and building entrances safe.
Education and Training: Assists in developing and providing training for equipment used by Grounds Department to ensure safe use of equipment and any hazardous materials.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Licensing & Certification: Must possess a valid driver's license
Minimum Qualifications: One year experience in equipment operation including skid steer operation including attachments, mowing using tractors and brush hogs and / or finish mowers. Experience operating a backhoe. Experience with forklift operation. Experience in snow removal using skid steer, tractor with blade and / or truck with blade and salt box.
