Position Summary

GlobalSTL, an initiative of BioSTL, is seeking resourceful, high-potential candidates for an Early Adopter Grower Innovation Community (EAGIC) role. This position will join our mission of transforming the pathway through which innovation reaches farmers in the US. The role will report to the GlobalSTL Ag-Food Director and will be a full-time, salaried position with BioSTL.

BioSTL is a privately funded non-profit organization transforming the St. Louis bioscience and innovation economy. We have organized business, university, and philanthropic leaders around a set of deliberate strategies that capitalize on St. Louis’ innovation strengths, especially in medical and plant sciences.

GlobalSTL attracts innovative, high-growth companies from around the world to Missouri. The GlobalSTL Ag-Food team does this by creating strategic connections to corporations, universities, and our EAGIC farmers and then convening their collective voice and buying power. This results in relationships with innovators that advance the mission and health of our strategic partners, farmers, and ultimately the rural communities we serve. We are pursuing candidates with a shared vision that can leverage, build, and lead GlobalSTL’s high-performing program to the next level.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

As a member of the GlobalSTL team, the EAGIC Lead will actively participate in the following responsibilities:

  • Execute the logistics of the EAGIC farmer testing network to provide a meaningful new path for innovations to reach farmers
  • Grow the scale and geography of the EAGIC program to fully unlock the power of this community
  • Convene local producer events to discover details of their needs and provide recommendations for new solutions
  • Magnify the impact of the network by highlighting marketing campaigns in partnership with the BioSTL Marketing Team
  • Successfully plan innovation field days and other public events to amplify positive results
  • Assist in the administration of the GlobalSTL Ag-Food program to identify, recruit, and expand high-growth international & US companies to St. Louis
  • Improve the quality of life in our region through the deployment of innovations originating from recruited companies
  • Work closely with the GlobalSTL team to coordinate high-quality visits of innovators or delegations to producers for firsthand experience
  • Contribute to launching an impactful Climate Smart Ag Coalition including representation from the voice of the farmer network
  • Fully leverage GlobalSTL’s Salesforce-enabled CRM system

Expected Outcomes

  • Solidify EAGIC as a nationally recognized model for sourcing, deploying, and scaling grower-centric innovation
  • An increase in the number of growers and crop advisors on the EAGIC platform
  • Additional innovations being piloted and scaled
  • Have the model be known for trust-based collaboration between growers, innovators, researchers, corporations, and farming communities
  • Growth in the sustainability of the GlobalSTL program through new models for monetizing the value provided to our strategic partners and innovators
  • Increased awareness by local, national, and international entities of St. Louis as the top ag-food innovation hub in the country

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in agriculture/business management/related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Enthusiasm for innovative and disruptive new technologies
  • Comfort talking to new people, especially in rural settings
  • Flexibility to understand different perspectives, cultures, and strengths/weaknesses of yourself and others
  • Ability to understand and speak the different “languages” of corporations, startups, and producers
  • Culture of accountability (see it, own it, do it) and excellence
  • Highest personal integrity
  • Can efficiently adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Willingness to travel as needed, mostly in the Midwest

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with field test plots and launching new products
  • Experience in technical evaluations, due diligence, and intellectual property review in research or commercial settings
  • Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and develop diverse, high-performing teams

Skills

The ideal candidate will be a passionate self-starter with a strong background in agriculture and an interest in entrepreneurship. This individual is willing to take on new challenges, likes to question the status quo, and is a good communicator with both internal and external audiences. Excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills are critical to articulate business situations clearly with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. They can be persuasive and motivating to elicit cooperation and results. They align with our culture of accountability amid an overall diversity in assignments that demonstrate flexible responsibilities such as managing a process, organization skills, establishing work plans, multitasking projects simultaneously, or negotiating complex situations. This individual will embrace a lifelong learning mindset; continually asking for feedback and ways to improve.

Compensation

Pay is commensurate with experience and is benchmarked against market rates. The benefits package for full-time employees includes excellent health coverage, generous retirement savings match, tuition assistance, and other benefits to support employees personally and professionally.

Full, up-to-date vaccination against COVID is required for employment. Exemptions may be granted for medical contraindications and for sincerely held religious beliefs. Exemption requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
