UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. UW-IT is changing to serve the UW better.

UW-IT’s responsibilities include:

Strategic planning, oversight and direction of the University’s IT infrastructure, resources and services
Consulting with academic, clinical and administrative units to evaluate their IT requirements, capabilities and requests
Managing UW central IT infrastructure and services, including academic and collaborative applications, accessible technology, administrative systems and information management, classroom technology, computing infrastructure, customer service, data centers, information security and privacy, IT services and strategic sourcing, networking, technology business continuity and telecommunications
Providing technology tools and resources for UW students, faculty and staff.
Working with the President, Provost and appropriate governance committees to determine IT strategies, policies, priorities and resource allocations.
Representing UW’s IT interests at the state, national and international levels

The Governance Operations Specialist will provide critical operational support of an institutional information technology governance process for UW’s ITs Governance Boards and the future Workday Governance model. They will work with UW leadership, such as the Provost, VPs, Deans and IT Directors; to help IT Governance deliver strategic high value IT investments that drive the mission of the university and help manage risk in the entire University’s IT portfolio. The Governance Operations Specialist will be instrumental to ensuring the efficient, effective, and timely communications of decisions, action items, and communications to stakeholders. They will also support IT Governance members with timely analysis and decision documents. This individual will also provide any necessary logistics support to ensure the success of IT Governance at the University of Washington. They will play a key role in facilitating governance discussions that drive to well-formed actionable outcomes.

This position will create and drive strategic initiatives that are identified by the governance boards. They will work with the project management office to make sure they are successfully executed and meet their strategic goals. The position develops, manages, and maintains several short-term and long-term projects.

This position is independently responsible for structuring and completing projects and assignments, necessary procurement of resources, and budget adherence, within established guidelines.

Position Complexities:

The Governance Operations Specialist will need to support executive-level decision-making on projects and programs that require a combination of IT and business resources, as well as ongoing prioritization of work to modify systems and data in response to changing business needs. The Governance Operations Specialist will work across many domains of the university such as Research, Student, Privacy and Security, and administrative functions. They will work with all levels such as the Provost, Vice Presidents, Deans, IT Directors, and campus stakeholders.

The University is a complex environment with many regulatory requirements from different bodies such as State, Federal, Granting Agencies.
This position will report to the Director of Enterprise Architecture & Strategy. They will lead a broad collaborative effort of diverse individuals from across campus such as VPs, Registrar, UW-Medicine officers, Computing Directors from across campus, etc.

In the future, this position might lead a small team of analysts that support IT Governance structure.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Management, Business Administration, correlated field or experience.
  • Progressive professional experience demonstrating the ability to develop and use strategies for developing and maintaining effective information technology policies, strategic and tactical plans, technology roadmaps, and/or performance measures at divisional and agency levels.
  • Knowledge of the challenges of governing and managing IT in a complex organizational landscape. Understanding of how IT services are managed.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple levels of management and leadership across organizational units to understand diverse goals and facilitate effective cross-functional information-sharing and decision-making.
  • Excellent facilitation and organizational change management skills, building effective business and technology partnerships to achieve organization strategy and goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong listening, negotiation, strategic facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to analyze and document sophisticated business systems and cases.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical thinking and ability to approach problems logically and systematically; ability to execute quickly, efficiently, and with high level of detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with relevant collaboration software including Google, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

    DESIRED:
  • Professional experience supporting frameworks for the governance of enterprise IT in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the enterprise, including developing, implementing, and monitoring the effectiveness of IT governance frameworks to optimize business benefits, use resources responsibly, and manage risks appropriately.
  • Knowledge of IT governance and enterprise architecture frameworks such as COBIT and TOGAF.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) foundations to apply common concepts and best practices for aligning IT services with the needs of the business.
  • Experience in communications and/or consulting roles including professional writing, research and analysis, presentation development/delivery, meeting planning and facilitation, and digital content development.
  • Knowledge of project management and change management best practices such as those promoted by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
  • Work experience in a large public sector organization.

    Hybrid 1 – 4 days per week in office. Open office environment, with meetings held in a variety of buildings on and off campus
