DESCRIPTION

The School of Medicine Neurosciences Graduate Program at the University of California, San Diego offers an outstanding opportunity for graduate training in one of the most highly interactive scientific environments available in the United States. Recently, our graduate program was named by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences as a top ranking neuroscience graduate program in the country.

The faculty who participate in the Graduate Program in Neurosciences have been brought together from many campus departments, the School of Medicine and from a number of affiliated institutes, including the Salk Institute, the Scripps Research Institute, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Burnham Institute, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center. There is an enormous breadth of neuroscience research interests represented among the faculty, so that students are able to pursue study in a wide range of neuroscience areas and they often carry out their dissertation research in collaboration with more than one laboratory. The students have over 50 laboratories to choose from. The Neurosciences Graduate Program is an interdisciplinary program that provides coursework and research training leading to a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in all areas related to the development and function of the nervous system.

The Graduate Program Administrator is independently responsible and accountable for providing comprehensive program management and administrative support for the Neurosciences Graduate Program. Duties include, but are not limited to, supporting the full range of activities involved in program and curriculum development, core course coordination, certification of tuition/fee eligibility, alumni and website development. Administrator will develop and manage all admissions, recruitment and outreach activities. Serve as consultant to Graduate Program Director and executive committee in analysis and formation of policy and key procedures for the program. Responsible for graduate program financial support, grant writing and administration, graduate enrichment, Information Exchange, and curriculum committees.

Applies knowledge about curriculum, requirements and educational activities to coordinate professional health education programs. Coordinates and maintains program operations, which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.

• Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge of health professions education program requirements. Thorough knowledge of health professions education industry.

• Thorough knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems. Thorough knowledge of the administrative and operational implications in a program.

• Demonstrated experience and documented excellence in oral and written communications skills; includes active listening and critical thinking.

• Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues.

• Thorough knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience.

• Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include statistical analysis of data across databases and systems.

• Demonstrated experience managing or administering program and curriculum activities in an academic setting.

• Superior knowledge and experience in program administration, and ability to effectively collaborate with campus and appropriate UC System-wide administrators, administrative units and external agencies

• Proven superior knowledge or experience in program/curricular development, policy formulation and strategic planning. Ability to critically evaluate program processes in order to recommend workflow and process improvements and implement programmatic changes to increase efficiency and program satisfaction.

• Experience in fiscal management including budget projections and accounting principles to maintain project financial records and produce accurate and effective reports and to successfully reconcile discrepancies. Knowledge of University, federal, academic and financial program policies regarding budget and fiscal management .

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
• Overtime may be required during peak periods (August, September, January, February, March).
• Vacations need to be scheduled during off-peak periods.
