Job Role Summary

The Grants Writer is supervised by the Associate Director of Pre-Award Management, and is responsible for assisting the Grants Department in: (1) all functions of grants-related fundraising. Specific Grants Writer duties include prospecting new funding sources, writing and editing, and ensuring timely and accurate development and submission of proposals.

Ideal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field; master’s level education preferred. Candidate must have excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills with ability to work professionally and efficiently in time-sensitive environment. Must be able to read and interpret complex guidelines, data, and legal documents.


Essential Duties

  • Prospect new funding sources for Program Managers.
  • Write and edit grant proposals for HHC, MCPHD, Eskenazi Health (including Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center and Eskenazi Health Center), and IEMS.
  • Ensure accurate and timely development and submission of grant proposals.
  • Serve on planning committees for all new and renewal grant proposals.
  • Serve as a liaison between Grants Department and Funder for coordination and communication.
  • Provide technical assistance to Program Managers.
  • Assist department personnel with periodic reporting, newsletter development, and tracking.
  • Maintain, monitor, and distribute grant-related information to appropriate personnel.
  • Facilitate executive approval for all grant proposals and awards to HHC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, journalism, business, or related field is required.
  • An advance degree is preferred.
  • Three or more year’s related experience and/or training in grant writing; or equivalent combination of education and experience is also required.
  • Program development and project management experience preferred.
  • Federal grants management experience preferred, including but not limited to, interpreting and applying provisions of Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements, 2 CFR Part 200 et.al.

  • Read, analyze, and interpret complex documents (proposal requests/legal documents)
  • Develop budgets, including formulation of salaries, costs, and percentages.
  • Handle several tasks under time pressures and competing deadlines.
  • Consistently complete applications and reports by established deadlines.
  • Manage and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Effectively present information to individuals and groups.
  • Respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Use Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe suite
  • Use copy/fax/scan machines
  • Organize a proposal effectively and efficiently with attention to detail.
