Position Summary:
The Grant Writer will support the mission of Philabundance and is responsible for all aspects of grant activities in compliance with the organization and department goals and objectives. This includes developing and executing a comprehensive and aggressive program to generate grant support from existing sources and new opportunities via Feeding America, private/corporate foundation, federal and state programs, local municipalities, civic and religious groups, etc. This role will research and submit proposals that support our strategic initiatives, steward donors, prepare Letters of Intent/Inquiry, and coordinate interdepartmental inputs. This is a multifaceted role that will challenge you to manage a full range of activities that are required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals and reports.
Primary Job Functions:
  • Align grant activities with the Strategic Plan, Development Department Goals and Objectives.
  • Collaborate with Programs and Executive Departments to prioritize funding needs.
  • Conduct research to identify funds available.
  • Collect, verify and interpret relevant data and statistics.
  • Write concise, articulate and persuasive grant proposals and narratives.
  • Work closely with Finance Departments to develop grant budgets and budget narratives.
  • Submit grant proposals to grantors; steward relationships with grantors, writing thank-you letters and other correspondence.
  • Monitor grant-funded programs and projects and submit timely reports on use of funding.
  • Maintain a grant-tracking and report-management system.
  • Compile and disseminate information for internal reports.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Manage full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals
  • Ensure database, correspondence and files are organized and current; including all proposal submissions comply with stated requirements and guidelines
  • Develop and cultivate contacts among grantors and potential funding sources
  • Ensure that proposals and grant reports are submitted in a timely fashion, preferably in advance of deadlines
  • Enter and track proposals and grant-related actions in Raiser’s Edge
  • Participate and assist with Development events and activities, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 4-year degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • preferably 3 years’ experience with grant research, writing and submission
  • Experience with or strong knowledge of non-profit fundraising landscape
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM Database; Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Exemplary writing skills; ability to write clear, articulate, and persuasive proposals. Technical writing is a plus
  • Robust editing skills with attention to detail
  • Exhibit proficiency with juggling multiple deadlines and
  • Experience with developing proposals for foundation, corporate and institutional donors
Essential Job Functions:
  • Work in a seated position up to 8 hours a day, 5 days a week
  • May be required to work some weekends and evenings
  • See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks
  • Lift/lower, push/pull and carry objects/parcels no greater than 50 pounds; when lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling and carrying objects/parcels greater than 50 pounds use 2 people or mechanical means
  • Occasional travel to other Philabundance/sites as needed and required. Must be willing and able to travel within the service area (employee can use whatever means is effective: public transportation, uber, lift, personal vehicle or other means).

    • Identify logical connections and determine sequence of response
    • Process up to 2-3 steps ahead
    • Evaluate problems and escalate / inform Management as necessary
