_Job Summary

_CASA for Children of DC is a leading voice in advocacy for court-involved youth in the District of Columbia. CASA DC connects specially-trained volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates to support vulnerable and at-risk youth in foster care and the juvenile justice system. CASAs develop a mentor-like relationship with their youth and advocate for their youth’s best interests in Court, promoting greater outcomes and the opportunity to thrive. The agency is organized as a charitable corporation under the not-for-profit laws of the District of Columbia. It is qualified as a tax-exempt charitable organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)3 and is classified as a public charity. The Grants & Communications Specialist will provide direct support to leadership in securing funding for CASA for Children of DC through diverse outreach and fundraising efforts, including grant applications, social media, event planning, and communications. This position will report directly to the Chief of Staff and work closely with both the Chief of Staff and Executive Director on funding strategy.

Responsibilities

Grants:

• Prepare persuasive letters of interest, grant applications, and proposals for private, corporate, and government funding opportunities
• Create and compile grant attachments; including collaboration with relevant staff for program designs and logic models
• Regularly identify potential grant opportunities and maintain a grants calendar
• Engage in research on best practices and needs to support proposals
• Contact potential and current partners and funders to schedule meetings

Communications:

• Create and post engaging content across CASA DC’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Linkedin
• Lead fundraising campaigns across social media and other communication methods, in addition to supporting fundraising events
• Promote CASA DC as a worthy cause to support, through volunteering, stakeholder engagement, and donations
• Prepare flyers, newsletters, and other communications to increase CASA DC’s visibility

_Experience and Education Requirements

_Knowledge & Skills

• Degree in Writing, Communications, or Non-Profit Management preferred
• Excellent persuasive writing skills required for competitive grant writing
• Strong time management, organizational, and planning skills, a high level of creativity, and the ability to work with minimum supervision required
• Proven record of securing funding through grant writing required; record of successful fundraising campaigns preferred
• Experience writing and preparing federal grant proposals preferred
• A minimum of three years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, and/or communications preferred
• Working knowledge of and experience with Google Suite required, digital/graphic design and social media experience preferred
• Experience with Asana or similar task management system preferred
• Knowledge of the juvenile justice and child welfare system encouraged

In accordance with CASA team philosophy, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description.

Position is REMOTE; however candidates must be able and willing to travel to the office 3-4 times annually.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 per year
