POSITION SUMMARY

The role supports The United States Air Force, specifically the Holm Center for Officer Accession and Citizen Development (HC or HC/DE). The primary goal is to provide graphic support to these teams.

HC/DE provides coordinated leadership and policy direction for the Air Force's officer recruiting, training, and commissioning programs at Officer Training School and AFROTC detachments at 145 universities. Manages support and develops curriculum to train tomorrow's Air Force officers. Directs the Air Force's high school citizenship training program for 120,000 students at 896 high schools worldwide.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for concept design, production, and release of printed and electronic materials that include but are not limited to, layout using InDesign software, Adobe Photoshop, to produce training related instructor lesson plans, student readers/workbooks, newsletters, websites and graphic products to support auditorium and classroom presentations and Web Based Training (WBT) Modules, cross platform electronic publications
  • Maintain high level of standards and output including materials developed with 5% or less error rates
  • Develop innovative graphics and layout designs for product illustrations, and review and suggest improvements as needed to existing products. These products include, but are not limited to new master files of multi-page Instructor Lesson Plans, Student Study Guides, corresponding student workbooks, newsletters, WBTs and other designated support material
  • Develop new graphics and layouts for product illustrations, and review and suggest improvements as needed to existing products
  • Using knowledge of current graphic design software to generate and manipulate graphic images, animations, sound, text and video into consolidated and seamless cross platform multimedia programs in order to support textbook production and auditorium presentations (which also combine narrative and graphic elements), CBTs and WBTs
  • Load, typesetting and verifying data from source documents and files by using equipment and software packages to include current versions of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop Creative Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Audition, Illustrator and/or alternative professional software. Additionally intermediate skills are required for Microsoft Office applications
  • Maintain the master curriculum files in accordance with HC/DE Operating Instruction 36-1 and DE Curriculum Production Guidelines. Maintain replication of hardware and products
  • Replicating a predetermined number of copies of functional-area, master curriculum lessons on CD/DVD and labeling of CD/DVD
  • Ensure proper formatting for web-based distribution
  • Provide staff training on publication standards as established by HC/DE curriculum publication guidelines
  • Provide photographic support and editorial photo retouching for additional graphic enhancements
  • Load data to electronic media - such as CD-ROM, DVDs, or any other form of appropriate media, and the organization’s shared network drive
  • Utilizing organization’s designated/provided software packages designed for data entry with verification
  • Interfacing with other electronic files of various complexity; such as, graphic files, electronic mail, and selectively transferring data from one to the other
  • Transactions are considered to be medium to high in complexity, requiring contractor personnel to become familiar with a variety of input/output documents
  • Develops creative and production schedules, confirming supplementary staff involvement as needed.
  • Communicates design decisions effectively to both designers and non-designers.
  • Uses creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual aptitude, and originality in all work products
  • Must interact, communicate, and present ideas on a daily basis with a variety of personalities
  • Works independently, as well as collaboratively as necessary.
  • Works on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Plans and meets project and production deadlines by prioritizing workload and adapting to changing conditions.
  • Remains up-to-date with industry leading software and technologies to include, but are limited to: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Report to Senior Graphic Designer and management
  • This position performs additional duties as assigned, given adequate guidance and resources.

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Fine Arts, graphic design, or related field preferred; or six (6) years of related experience
  • Minimum experience of five years of design experience, preferably in both print and digital
  • Proficiency in computer layout and design, specifically using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Certification highly preferred
  • Knowledge of print production processes
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Strong negotiation and decision making skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with others individually, and as part of a team
  • Ability to visually articulate design ideas
  • Must be highly detail-oriented and organized
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines
  • Must demonstrate and maintain a strong work ethic and a good demeanor toward work
  • 508 compliance knowledge a plus
  • Full fluency in English

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates on Maxwell Air Force Base. See travel information in the Travel section.This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is largely a sedentary role.

TIMELINE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Estimated Start Date is September 14, 2022. The normal on-site full-time work schedule will consist of a minimum of eight working hours each day, Monday through Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. local time (excluding Federal holidays, AETC Family Days and base closures).

SALARY AND BENEFITS

All salary and benefits will be discussed during interviews. Salary will be based on commensurate experience. Only full time employees are eligible for benefits programs.

TRAVEL

Travel may be required outside of the normal commute. 10% of total time or less and as business requires. Limited travel may be required to participate in meetings with awarded recipients for site and/or technical visits to provide oversight and program review. Limited travel may also be required to attend professional trainings and/or certifications.
