Job description
Purpose of the Position:
The temporary graphic designer role provides creative leadership by making assets and graphics that inspire and inform customers across our social media, advertising, tradeshow, ecommerce, giveaway, and other marketing and communication channels. As part of a fast-paced environment within our marketing department, you will work closely with the Graphics Supervisor to generate high-quality visuals in line with Thorlabs’ brand standards and project objectives.
To be successful, the candidate must have advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. This position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as the ability to work in a team environment and under tight time constraints. Candidates may work remotely who reside in either California, Colorado, South Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland or Virginia
The position will last a minimum of three months with possible extensions to six months or full-time depending on company needs. Please submit a portfolio of your work along with your resume.
Essential Job Functions:
- Collaborates and iterates with Graphics Supervisor to generate high-quality visuals in-line with Thorlabs’ brand standards and project objectives
- Translates marketing needs into cohesive graphic elements, using creativity and excellent aesthetic judgment to create high-quality and innovative graphics for print, digital, and in-person marketing collateral
- Ability to balance the need for high-level creativity for some projects with fast creative execution and delivery on others
- Ability to produce consistent high-quality results, often under tight time constraints
Experience:
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC, and Adobe InDesign CC
- 3-5 years of practical work experience
Education:
- College degree or equivalent in graphic design
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment, multi-task, and successfully maintain high quality work
- Strong knowledge of graphic design and visual design theory and fundamentals (e.g., Art and Visual Perception, Color Theory, Form, Branding, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to self-review work for accuracy and brand adherence.
- Strong art portfolio, demonstrating expertise in graphic design for various marketing collateral
- Demonstrated work ethic, ownership, and accountability; ability to individually drive initiatives
- Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to pivot as business needs evolve
- Excellent communication skills
