Position Details
The Victims of Crime – Grief, Loss, and Trauma Therapist will provide trauma informed, survivor centered therapeutic individual, group, and family therapy to meet the therapeutic needs of survivors of homicide and other violent crimes and individuals experiencing crisis in the communities served. They will be on an on-call rotation with the HOVC and Crisis Co-Responder programs in the following counties Scott, Cedar, Jackson, Clinton, Muscatine, and Rock Island counties. This position will is a duly funded position between Iowa Homicide and Other Violent Crimes and Community Crisis Services programs. This position will need to have a flexible schedule that may include working some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field required. Licensed or license eligible preferred.
- Therapeutic experience with survivors and/or grief, loss, and trauma preferred.
- Valid drivers’ license in good standing and vehicle with appropriate auto insurance required. Must be able to pass the motor vehicle record background check.

- Position Hours: varies-8:30 am-5 pm with some occasional evenings and special weekend events

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial
- Meets or exceeds budgeted financial expectations for the program.
- Will seek prior approval and work with the direct supervisor for any purchases that need to be made.
- Submit all receipts within 24 hours of purchase.
- Provides timesheet documentation for all funding sources related to the position.
Operations
- Operate from the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).
- Ensure free, voluntary, non-discriminatory, accessible services for all.
- Work as part as multi-disciplinary team to coordinate wrap around supports.
- Implement an effective outreach program for identified underserved populations within service areas assigned.
- Assist with maintaining a library of information resources (books, pamphlets, articles, etc.) relevant to survivor understanding, recovery, and advocacy.
- Proactively supports agency values.
- Follow agency policy on confidentiality.
- Keep Supervisor informed of relevant issues.
- Actively participate in program and agency problem identification and resolution.
- Complete job-related paperwork and data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
- Proactively support the development and attainment of program and agency program goals.
Client/External
Provide comprehensive, trauma informed, survivor centered therapeutic individual, group, and family therapy to survivors of other violent crimes and community crises.- Develop and implement ongoing support groups throughout entire service area to meet the unique needs of individuals dealing with crises, grief, loss, and trauma as a result of a homicide or other violent crime.
- Support the overall programs with technical assistance on the unique therapeutic needs of survivors of homicide and other violent crimes and community crisis.
- Offer or collaborate with others who can offer creative/expressive therapies to survivors of homicide and other violent crimes and individuals dealing with crises.
- Provide education to community members in related fields on understanding therapeutic needs of survivors of homicide and other violent crimes.
- Actively participates in program and agency problem identification and resolution.
- Proactively supports the development and attainment of program and agency program goals Proactively supports agency values.
- Provide ongoing support to survivors through face-to-face contacts, cards, telephone calls, and other means.
- Provide crisis counseling for adult & child survivors.
- Advocate for victims within legal, medical, housing & social systems.
- Facilitate support and action groups for victims.
- Completes job-related paperwork and data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure all appropriate documentation of client contacts.
- Other duties as assigned.
People
- Participates in, at minimum, twice monthly individual supervisions with a direct supervisor.
- Creates positive, inclusive, safe, client-led, and outcome-oriented culture.
- Serves as a public face of the Agency by interfacing with regulatory, community, and funder leadership.
- Ensures that communication with outside parties is coordinated and effectively builds positive relationships.
Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass a driving background check, and have reliable transportation.
