Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, and in accordance with the Association policies set forth by the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County, the Gymnastics and Dance Director will be responsible for the planning, supervision, and administration of developmental gymnastics, movement education, dance, enrichment, and birthday party programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Direct, schedule, and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and lead class instruction of parent/tot, preschool, and school age gymnastics.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and direct staff and volunteers as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
• Ensure all programs have a trained, qualified instructor. Fill in as a substitute instructor when necessary.
• Establish new program activities and expand program in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
• Lead and direct programs when staff cannot be secured.
• Maintain participant records and program statistics.
• Assist in marketing and distribution of program information.
• Ensure that care of participants is a key priority through direct supervision of staff.
• Manage all materials and supplies needed for planned activities and maintain quality of supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Ensure safety and cleanliness of all program spaces.
• Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
• Model relationship building skills in all interactions. Respond to all member, program, and community inquiries in a timely manner.
• Attend and participate in branch, Association, program cabinet meetings, and trainings as required.
• Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events including Annual Campaign and Golf Outing.
• Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations.
• Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
• Be a champion for overall branch membership goals, retention, and satisfaction.
• Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises gymnastics, movement education, dance, enrichment, and birthday party staff in accordance with Association policies, mission, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, addressing, and resolving issues. Monitor and submit payroll for all staff in a timely manner.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Bachelors degree in a related field is preferred along with a minimum of two years of experience instructing gymnastics; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Demonstrate adequate vision, hearing, and verbal articulation/projection skills to communicate effectively with all program participants.
• Strong organizational abilities as well as oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to provide physical assistance and demonstration of proper techniques which may include bending, reaching, lifting, squatting, jumping, and standing for long periods of time.
• Must have sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
