JOB DETAILS:

The water aerobics instructor is responsible for instructing safe, effective and fun group water exercise classes, as well as enhancing the quality, growth, and retention of the aquatics fitness program. The instructor creates a positive environment that promotes member’s wellness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group water fitness classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals
• Encourages and motivates participants
• Ensures safety and association rules and procedures are followed
• Ensures accidents or injuries are treated and reported
• Follows all aquatics guidelines and policies
• Participates in aquatics staff meetings and trainings as required
• Tracks session attendance and completes required paperwork
• Provides excellent customer service to all members, guests and staff
• Stays informed of all program offerings, class scheduling, membership changes, policies, etc. and cross promotes when appropriate
• Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations
• Other duties as assigned
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen administration, IFTA, Fit Tour, or equivalent, Water Fitness Instructor certification (or equivalent)
• Certification in areas of expertise
• Lifeguard certification preferred
• At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to plan, lead and participate in class activities.
