JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Head Football Coach/Teacher FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal/Athletic Director Terms of Employment: 12 month

Job Description:

Under the general direction of the principal and athletic director, plans, implements and directs the football program at TJCA in compliance with appropriate rules and regulations as outlined by Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy and NCHSAA/conference requirements. The job requires a teacher, staff, or administration duty at TJCA.

Essential Job Functions:

Teaches classes as assigned by principal, and fulfills all duties and expectations of a Teacher at TJCA.

Responsible for assistant coaches, their development, and behavior on the field; models appropriate and respectful coaching behavior on and off the field;

Ensuring team management including training, teaching, and any other support activities that are necessary for student-athletes to enjoy successful academic and sports careers;

Works in unison with the athletic director to set a budget for the team. Provides a fiscal overview for their athletic team in cooperation with athletic director and finance office;

Schedules, in cooperation with athletic staff, game and officials;

Works with the football booster club, and other support organizations on fundraising activities for the football programs;

Establishes and evaluates goals for the football program;

Develops and oversees an annual orientation program for athletes and parents;

Works with counselors, teachers, and other staff to ensure student-athletes receive academic intervention support when warranted;

Supervises all activities within the team’s athletic program to ensure compliance with conference and NCHSAA rules;

Maintains a professional relationship with area/conference high school coaches to ensure communication benefits the schools and student-athletes;

Maintains an inventory record of all athletic equipment;

Maintains accurate and official team and individual records;

Coordinates concessions and other sales at home matches with the athletic director;

Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students,

supervisors or other employees;

May be asked to assist with other coaching responsibilities as needed;

Work in conjunction with assistant coaches to develop and implement a summer weight training program;

Organize and oversee all summer travel to camps, 7 on 7 events, etc.;

Organize and submit team roster for eligibility checks including eligibility for summer workouts;

Help maintain, mow, and clean the football field and related facilities.

Minimum Education, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of five years experience in coaching at the college or high school level;
  • Three years of experience in play-calling on the offensive or defensive side of the ball
  • Ability to objectively evaluate the performance of coaches and players;
  • Knowledge of high school football rules and regulations;
  • Effective planning and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems and Microsoft applications;
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and media;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student population;
  • Ability to think “outside the box” and to lead and manage change in a positive and inclusive manner.
  • Familiar with football systems like HUDL, HUDL Sideline, MaxPreps, etc
  • Demonstrated capability to work with college coaches during recruitment activities

Work Environment: Operates in a variety of conditions including office, gymnasium, training rooms and outdoors.

Special Requirements:

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends;
  • Ability to travel for team practices, competition, and scouting;
  • Appropriate driver’s license for transportation of team by bus (or capability to acquire in next 6 months);
  • Physical ability to train and coach athletic teams;
  • Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment.
