We are a 38-year-old Premier garden center located in east central Wisconsin. Garden Center experience is necessary and a must. You must be a dedicated and hard worker, you must have an applicators license and a full knowledge of growing operations. This job has great potential for growth. The salary is negotiable depending on experience!
Bloch’s Farm, in beautiful Green Lake, WI is a busy upscale garden center. We offer landscape design and installation, hardscaping and landscape maintenance throughout the area.
We are looking to hire a Head Horticulturalist/Head Grower who will continue with and expand upon our reputation as a business that provides high quality nursery stock and plant materials that exceeds industry standards and who will assist in maintaining our garden center to keep it aesthetically appealing and professional in appearance to promote customer satisfaction.
GENERAL DUTIES:
Monitor, report, and take complete responsibility for all greenhouse conditions at all times. Example: inclement weather such as wind, snow load, threatening weather, shade cloth removal, water main shutdown and hose drainage, etc.
Manage all growing operations of nursery and retail stock, both in the field and in-house, using other staff members to aid in everyday functions.
Manage all greenhouse operations, including maintenance, delivery schedules, inventories, future growing opportunities, and institute and monitor our daily labor needs schedule. Tagging and pricing of all plant materials is a must, along with weekly walk through of plant materials to replace or restore any and all plant tags.
Supervise and monitor all employees assigned to grounds and greenhouses, in conjunction with the retail manager. Ensure all areas worked in are clean and organized at all times, taking care to leave time at the end of each task and the end of the day to complete clean up tasks.
Flexibility to deal professionally with work matters, customers and prospective landscape clients pertaining to their needs.
Ability to work with computers, software, and tag/label maker, and assign office tasks including but not limited to materials job costing where necessary.
Flexibility to travel to continuing education seminars and conferences, expenses paid by Bloch's Greenhouses, Inc.
Keep all required logs (state and inner company) current and up-to-date, educating yourself on the requirements for record keeping for the State of Wisconsin for the Green Industry.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants are to have received a horticulture degree from a reputable institution and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the industry. Applicants are to be proficient with MS office and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
