Head Start Family Advocate

Job Focus:

The Family Advocate works closely with enrolled families by supporting and connecting them with resources to meet their needs by implementing a Family Partnership Agreement and goal setting. The Family Advocate actively participates in recruitment activities and assist’s families in applying for CDCSA services. This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Family Service Coordinator and Program Manager in implementing Family Service, Parent Engagement and Health programs.
  • Maintain compliance of the Head Start Performance Standards, ECEAP Performance Standards, and WAC’s as indicated in the CDCSA Work Plans, Policies and Procedures.
  • Conduct outreach, recruitment and enrollment activities to help maintain full enrollment.
  • Participate in providing orientation to parents on the program and policies.
  • Provide support services, to families and enrolled children, so that they may take part in CSA program related activities. This includes arranging childcare opportunities and transportation plans.
  • Assist families in the identification of their family strengths and needs.
  • Facilitate the implementation of individualized Family Partnership Agreement.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with community resources.
  • Identify resources within the community that would potentially meet the needs of enrolled families.
  • Assist parents in becoming active advocates for their children.
  • Conduct family home visits.
  • Assist the Health Coordinator in completion of medical and dental needs for enrolled children.
  • Maintain complete records of all family contacts and activities for assigned families.
  • Participate in at least one social service related organization.
  • Be available for evening meetings and home visits, extended day, workshops as necessary.
  • Drive program vehicles as needed.

Qualifications:

Advocate I

  • High School Graduate or GED, and Early Childhood Education.

Advocate II

  • Family Service Credential, AA or higher degree in Social Science or related field.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to communicate positively with children and families with varying cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to organize and deliver presentations to a variety of community organizations.
  • Ability to past a pre-employment Drug Test Screening.
  • Freedom from conviction of child abuse and neglect.
  • A valid Washington State Driver’s License, automobile liability insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Fulfillment of all specified Health and Safety requirements.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement:

The CDCSA is a Licensed Childcare Center. According to the Washington state vaccine mandate, all licensed childcare staff members are required to be vaccinated by October 18th, 2021. This means you are required to submit a COVID-19 vaccination card or a medical/religious exemption form to Human Recourses by 10/18/21. If you have any questions about this requirement or would like to submit an exemption form please contact our HR Department.
