Centered in the intersection of equity, social justice and public health, the Director of Health Equity will partner primarily with Patient Services to develop and lead health equity projects across the organization that improve outcomes, reduce disparities, and reduce unconscious bias. They will execute on and support projects that close health equity gaps, improve patient experience and overall systems of care for BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and other patients who historically and currently experience disparities in care and health outcomes. This role will serve as a health equity expert for the organization, ensuring health equity is at the center of PPCW’s services delivery. The Director of Health Equity will work with PPCW leadership and patient services staff, both leadership and at health centers to identify and address long-standing systemic health and social inequities that affect PPCW’s patients and interventions to reduce these inequities. This position will also have oversight of health equity aspect of PPCW Patient Experience and Performance Improvement initiatives in Patient Services.
Compensation: $70,502 - $84,660 annually

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours) Monday - Friday. Employees may be requested or required to occasionally work other days (including weekends), hours and locations to meet operational needs.
Position Details: This is a non-represented, salaried (exempt) position. PPCW complies with all Federal and State Covid-19 Vaccine Mandates.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of experience within health care or non-profit environment and implementing health equity initiatives to reduce disparities.
- Demonstrated ability to champion racial equity, inclusion and belonging within an organization.
- A deep understanding of systemic racism in health care and public health.
- Demonstrated knowledge with issues of race, class, gender, ability, size, sexual orientation, power and privilege, systemic oppression, intersectionality, social justice, liberation, identity, community involvement, organizing.
- Great interpersonal, networking, conflict management, and rapport building skills with a variety of constituents and diverse communities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience within a health center.
- Master’s in Public Health, Social Work, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience with process improvement and patient experience preferred.
- Experience in curriculum development and training delivery (workshops, etc.) or curricula.
- Demonstrated success as a supervisor of diverse teams and/or individuals
- Multilingual proficiency preferred.
Essential Functions
- Supervise Language Services Coordinator Position, which coordinates PPCW’s provision of care in languages other than English.
- In collaboration with key stakeholders, develops health equity priorities for PPCW, in response to patient data, historical trends and community needs.
- Develop focused interventions to address social determinants of health, implicit bias, institutional racism, systemic barriers to race and health equity and strategies to shift practice in clinical settings.
- Partners closely with Patient Services leadership to provide health equity expertise on policy, procedure, and practice.
- Present and visible in health centers; develops working relationships with health center managers, BOCAs and FOCAs and clinicians.
- Supports the evaluation and expansion of the health center’s health equity capacity, with a primary focus on understanding and addressing the social determinants of health, health disparities, and health and social inequities.
- Guides the development of a plan for PPCW patient services to center health equity to reduce health and experience disparities for BIPOC patients that strengthens and brings sustained focus on racism as a public health emergency.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates Patient Experience initiatives to improve patient experiences in our clinics with special focus on priority populations through an equity lens.
- Oversees health equity aspects of performance improvement and practice standardization initiatives across all PPCW sites.
- Along with Clinical and Operational leadership in Patient Services, leads HC health equity performance improvement initiatives with an overall focus on improving health outcomes among priority populations.
- Demonstrates an understanding and ability to communicate the historical role systemic racism plays in health care and its impact on marginalized communities to internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintains excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including PPCW leadership as well as leaders in community agencies as needed.
- Works collaboratively with key PPCW staff to incorporate community and patient input and decisions into PPCW’s health services health equity initiatives.
- Responsible for grants management activities including preparation, implementation, deliverables and quality metrics are met or exceeded, and budgets are stewarded responsibly.
- Oversee data collection and analysis of data and prepares pertinent documentation and reporting for quality improvement activities, including queries and member and provider surveys.
- Summarize and synthesize complex data and information to identify trends and patterns, pinpoint issues, and areas of improvement, and recommend solutions and next steps through healthcare research and quantitative analysis.
- Provides subject matter expertise for grant writing.
- Serves as an active participant and leader on PPCW’s Equity and Inclusion Team and leads the Patient-facing and clinical work outlined in PPCW’ s Equity Plan.
- Travel as necessary for meetings and training.
- Other duties as agreed upon.
Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills
Skills:
- Understanding of and interest in working to develop and implement successful health services initiatives focused on health disparities as well as health and social inequities.
- Demonstrated expertise in eliciting and managing the collaborative participation of various stakeholders.
- Use and understanding of the importance of creating and fostering a data-driven environment.
- Familiarity with process improvement processes in healthcare settings, such as LEAN or TCPC.
- Must exercise excellent judgment in representing PPCW. Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work independently, solve problems and move ahead without constant instructions.
- Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands.
- Strong computer skills including command of Word, Excel, and any other database software(s) used to track work outputs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people of different races, ethnicities, sexual and gender identities and expressions, ages, abilities and experiences.
- Commitment to addressing the impact of racism and other oppressions on sexual health.
- Knowledge of equity frameworks.
- Strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to coordinate multiple projects/tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience within a health center or non-profit environment.
- Previous experience with health equity practices and/or study preferred.
- Previous experience with Press Ganey a plus.
