POSITION TITLE: Health/Health Sciences; Wahluke Junior High School


CLASSIFICATION:
Certificated Position; FSLA Exempt

Representation available by the Wahluke Education Association


REPORTS TO:
Principal and/or other Supervisor


SUMMARY:
The Wahluke School district is in need of a Health/Nutrition teacher, focusing on health, health & wellness, and on healthy living. Possible assignments are Health. May include Foods Nutrition, Parenting, or other CTE FASCE courses dependant upon qualifications. May be assigned to teach P.E. Applicant will contribute to student skill development for passing end of course exams. Create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students assigned to the classroom; to motivate students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation of secondary grade education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to supervise students within the classroom, on campus, and during school functions; to provide a safe environment for learning; to establish good relationships with other staff members.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate, Health & Fitness endorsed. Bachelor's degree which provides evidence of a strong background/experience in Health and Nutrition.
  • Interest and ability to secure a CTE certificate in health in the future is of interest to the District.
  • Preference may be given to individuals who have a history of, and express an interest in, extra- curricular activities positions or leadership opportunities.
  • Understanding/Knowledge of 5D CEL Instructional Frameworks and ability to incorporate dimensions in daily teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of/training in Safe & Civil Schools, PBIS and /or Character Strong programs preferred.
  • Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the instructional delivery and for communication, reporting and professional purposes.
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, and evaluate student performance.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum standards, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
  • Successful experience or ability to obtain proficiency in distance learning applications and management techniques.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
  • Able to work in a calm, efficient safe manner.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally with assistance.
  • Able and expected to attend work as scheduled.
  • Able to model appropriate professional behavior.
  • Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment, and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student and district records required.
  • Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or have an approved religious or medical exemption on file.

  • Implement state essential learning and district standards
  • Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and competency in instructional practices
  • Implement district curriculum, effectively implement district initiatives.
  • Informs students of their progress in terms of objectives set for the lesson or study course, handles student discipline and attendance problems.
  • Interacts positively with students, professional associates, parents and patrons of the school district
  • Participates in staff development activities
  • Performs job related, non-teaching duties
  • Monitors student activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment and adhering to education code, district, and/or school policies.
  • Promote high expectations, demonstrate a caring attitude and establish an environment that supports high achievement in students.
  • Provides for individual differences in the learning needs of students, provides a classroom climate that is based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and consistency ensuring that every child has an equitable opportunity for success.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
  • Participates as a team member in planning curriculum, instruction and procedures
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • If so assigned directs instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Ability to analyze student data to inform instruction.
  • Attend/supervise student field trips.
  • Participate in curriculum review and design.
  • Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  • Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ELL, Reading, Special Education, SEL).
  • Willingness and ability to attend trainings, including travel. Maybe outside the school year calendar, may include overnight.
  • Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
  • Proficient in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
  • Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Maintain professional student boundaries.
  • Provide and manage distance learning.
  • Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology)
