Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with CDC, providers (hospitals, ambulatory provider practices and Federally Qualified Health Centers), and electronic health record (EHR) vendors to facilitate the implementation and ongoing production operation of the HL7 National Health Care Surveys CDA Implementation Guide (IG)
  • Perform consulting services in Health Informatics Technology systems and clinical informatics to help extract and transmit data from HIT systems, and engage provider organizations, including administrative, clinical, and IT staff
  • Evaluate data received by NCHS from providers that was informed by the HL7 National Health Care Surveys CDA Implementation Guide (IG) to assess compliance with the IG, and to work with providers and their EHR vendors to improve compliance
  • Assists with implementation the Division of Health Care Statistics (DHCS) Fast Health Interoperability Resources (FHIR) EHR Data Pilot, which is co-implementing the CDC MedMorph Reference Architecture IG and the Health Care Surveys (FHIR) Content IG in three different clinical settings at four provider organizations
  • Work with CDC Office of the Chief Information Officer and DHCS Technical Services Branch staff and their contractors to design and implement FHIR services to receive the data at CDC, store the data in a cloud environment and provide secure access to the data for DHCS survey staff
  • Assists with recommendations for updates to US Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) that will benefit data collection for DHCS health care surveys
  • Assists with keeping the DHCS Director updated on changes to ONC regulations and the CMS Promoting Interoperability Programs

Requirements

  • A master-level degree in health informatics or related field
  • Degree in a clinical field, such as nursing or medicine, and substantial subsequent experience in clinical care and HIT (preferred)
  • Experience with vendors of different EHR systems
  • Experience extracting and transmitting data from HIT systems
  • Superb interpersonal skills to engage hospital officials, including administrative, clinical, and IT staff
  • SQL, XML, JASON, and Java Programming
